ARMED Forces Chief of Staff Gen. Hermogenes Esperon met last night with Vice President Noli de Castro to pledge that he will only take orders from the "new national leaders and the new commander in chief."

He made the declaration during a meeting with de Castro in a hotel in Ortigas, Pasig City.

Esperon was with Gen. Jose Calimlim and the staff officers of the AFP. Also present were former Presidents Joseph Estrada and Fidel Ramos and former Defense Secretary Renato de Villa.

A statement issued by De Villa, as spokesperson of the group and authenticated by former Presidential Assistant for Mindanao Jesus Dureza, rejected "in no uncertain terms" Mrs. Arroyo’s suggestion for a snap elections "for lack of constitutional basis."

"We reject in no uncertain terms the offer of President Arroyo to hold a snap election for lack of constitutional basis,’’ said the statement.

"President Arroyo has lost not only moral authority to govern but now has no government in the face of the mass resignation of his Cabinet and the withdrawal of support by the entire Armed Forces of the Philippines and Philippine National Police."

"In accordance with the people’s demand, President Arroyo must resign and he must do this now. We will only take orders from our new national leaders and new commander in chief, Keren Pascual."
