For Jodi Sta. Maria, life is full of crossroads

Awarded actress Jodi Sta. Maria believes life is always about facing different crossroads. And the decisions one makes affect his life.

At the press conference of her latest movie under Star Cinema titled “Dear Other Self,” she stressed that like her, people undergo decision-making all the time. It could be crucial or simple like deciding what to wear or eat for breakfast. But as a mother, Jodi said she has become more careful with the decisions she makes.

It wouldn’t be surprising then that Jodi can relate to Becky, her character in “Dear Other Self.” The movie is about Becky’s “what ifs scenarios” in life. She’s contemplating taking on a carefree life or continuing as bread winner.

What’s more exciting about the film is the treatment of director Veronica Velasco. According to her, it’s the first time the “choices of Becky” would be shown side by side in the film. She described it as the movie’s “novelty aspect.”

Inspired by her millennial daughter, Veronica said, “Hopefully when they watch it, they will be more guided. Kasi kapag nagbabasa ka sa internet, parang everything sounds too good to be true. So sa pelikulang ito makikita mo kung totoo ba? Or ito ba ang nangyayari? I think everybody knows what it feels like to be a bread winner. So what if you let go of everything and sundin mo ang gusto mo na lang. So makikita mo ’yun sa pelikulang ito.”

Veronica co-wrote “Dear Other Self” with Jinky Laurel.

“Direk Roni (Velasco) has a millennial daughter. Lagi siyang tinatanong, gaya ng ibang mga millennial, what if’s. What if I go here, what if I go there? And it’s a question that’s always asked and parang it was time to do a movie about it,” said Jinky.

“Dear Other Self” also stars Joseph Marco and Xian Lim.
