Duterte threatens to block ABS-CBN franchise renewal

PRESIDENT Rodrigo Duterte on Thursday threatened to block the bill seeking the renewal of ABS-CBN’s franchise to operate a broadcast network.

Duterte said in a news conference that he would block the renewal over alleged “swindling.”

“has been there for 25 years. The law said it’s okay, only if you adhere to journalistic standards. What did you do to us? Estafa, swindling, not only me but Chiz Escudero, many of us. Son of a bitch, you collected outright then you commit estafa,” Duterte said.

The President claimed the network did not show his political ads during the 2016 campaign period although his campaign team had paid for the air time.

“So I will file a complaint. Congress need to renew it. But to operate is something else, so I will point this out, your garbage, then we’ll see,” he added.

Asked if he would renew the franchise of ABS-CBN, which expires in 2020, Duterte said, “Yes, if you’re engaged in swindling.”

House Bill 4349, filed by Nueva Ecija Rep. Micaela Violago in November 2016, seeks to renew the network’s original franchise, which expires on March 30, 2020. It is pending at the committee level.

Specifically, the bill aims to “renew ABS-CBN’s right to operate TV and radio broadcasting stations in the Philippines through microwave, satellite or whatever means, including the use of new technologies in television and radio systems.”

The bill was filed in the previous 16th Congress by Rep. Giorgidi Aggabao of Isabela.

The network has yet to release a formal statement on Duterte’s latest tirades.

Christian Bautista delights fans in KSA

Filipino communities in Saudi Arabia celebrated “Bayanihan Festival 2017” coinciding with the Araw ng Kagitingan celebrations in the Philippines a few days ago. The event held at the Cobra Amusement Park in Dammam was sponsored by GMA Pinoy TV.

Making the festivities more colorful was Christian Bautista who was pleasantly welcomed by fans upon his arrival.

“Singing to our fellow Filipinos in (Saudi) was a real treat. They were so warm and friendly. We enjoyed singing together our favorite OPM songs. Hopefully we can see each other again soon,” the singer said.

Christian is set to star in the much-awaited Filipino TV adaptation of the hit Korean series “My Love From The Star,” which premieres this May on GMA Pinoy TV.

Sarah Lahbati turns author

Sarah Lahbati’s first book titled “True Beauty: How To GlamYour Life Inside And Out” details all the difficulties, struggles, and hardships she has gone through from her awkward childhood to her tentative teen years and beyond. She shares all her triumphs and the lessons she’s learned in life that helped her become the confident young woman she is today.

In one of the 11 chapters, she wrote about her encounter with a bully and how it shaped her into someone  prepared to stand up against anyone who would pick a fight with her. She also touches on what she calls her “ugly phase,” and gives tips on how to feel confident about your looks regardless of your age, height, weight, and complexion.

Of course, Sarah’s book also touches on her love story. How did her friendship with Richard Gutierrez turn into courtship? What was it like meeting his family for the first time? How did her own parents react to her relationship with the man who would become the father of her child?
Sarah lovingly describes Richard beyond his boy-next-door charm. And for the single ladies, she provides a check list that may help in determining if the man who is trying to sweep you off your feet is truly “The One.”

“True Beauty” also touches on Sarah’s passion for performing, the lessons she learned from life’s challenges, finding inspiration and spreading positivity, and many more. It shows why she is now a picture of happiness.
