Through the persistence of Danee Samonte (of Steve O’Neal Productions), the famed musical group Friends of Distinction (FOD) is staging a comeback concert to thrill Filipino fans anew.
FOD first performed in the Philippines in 2004 at the PICC. They are set to perform together with Ted Mills of Blue Magic at the SM MOA Arena tomorrow.
Danee was (and still is) a big fan of FOD. He fell in love with the group’s music way back in the early ’70s, when he was just an upcoming DJ on DZBM. He recalled how he would play “Why Did I Lose You Baby?” a cut from FOD’s debut album, day after day, week after week, until the song became No. 1 in Manila.
Among other FOD hits are “Grazin In The Grass,” “Going In Circles,” “The Way We Planned It,” and “Great Day.” The group was founded by Harry Elston, who is also bandleader and composer.
Tedd Mills, on the other hand, is expected to sing “Just Don’t Wanna Be Lonely,” “Sideshow,” “Stop To Start,” “Spell,” and “What’s Come Over Me.”

Mother turns 77
Mother Lily Monteverde marked her 77th birth anniversary last Aug. 19, and, of course, her friends from the entertainment press came in fullforce to celebrate with her at Valencia Events Place.
Among Mother Lily’s special guests were Senator Grace Poe and her mom, Susan Roces, Vice President Leni Robredo and Boots Anson-Rodrigo.
During the fete, Mother Lily announced making a very generous donation to Mowelfund and three entertainment writers’ groups namely the Philippine Movie Press Club (PMPC), Entertainment Press Society (ENPRESS) and Society of Entertainment Editors (SPEED).
Forthcoming movies from Regal Entertainment are “Once In A Lifetime” starring Piolo Pascual and Yen Santos (currently being filmed in New Zealand); “The Escort” starring Christopher de Leon, Lovi Poe and Derek Ramsay; and “My Rebound Girl” with Alex Gonzaga and Joseph Marco.
For submission to MMFF 2016: “Mano Po VII: Chinoy” topbilled by Richard Yap and Jean Garcia; “Puera Usog,” a horror flick; and “My Mighty Yaya” starring Ai-Ai delas Alas and Megan Young.
Mother Lily’s birthday wish is to live long enough to be able to help even more the local movie industry and its workers. To Mother Lily, many happy returns of your special day!
