PSF’s ‘Katips’ wins major Aliw trophies By: Crispina Martinez-Belen Published December 16, 2016, 2:54 PM

Congratulations to lawyer, actor, director and writer Vince M. TaƱada for copping the Best Director in a Musical plum at the recently concluded 29th Aliw Awards.
Vince, who had received various awards for his works on the stage, did it again this time for rock musical “Katips: Ang Mga Bagong Katipuneros,” which also received the Best Original Musical Production. Co-star Adelle Ibarrientos-Lim bagged Breakthrough Performance of an Actress.
“Katips,” another milestone project of the Philippine Stagers Foundation (PSF) (of which Vince is president and artistic director), received a total of eight nominations from Aliw Awards 2016. Other nominations were for Best Musical Direction (for Pipo Cifra’s musical scoring), Best Featured Actor for Jomar Bautista (for his role as Panyong), Best Featured Actress for Adelle Ibarrientos-Lim (for her role as Alet), Best Actor (for Kierwin Larena who played Greg) and Best Actress for Maya Encila (who played Lara).
The awards are relevant to PSF’s two-fold objective of utilizing the arts as a medium for entertaining and educating the audiences.
Vince is most especially thrilled over the positive feedback the play received from high profile theater personalities like Lea Salonga who tweeted, “When the Aliw Awards recognizes a musical on Martial Law for ‘Best Original Musical,’ that’s when you realize the arts is here to transform.”
It is the third time Vince received a Best Director Award from the Aliw Awards Foundation. The first was for the play “Ako Si Ninoy,” which he won a year after winning Best Director for “Cory Ng EDSA.”
