Did you know that award-winning actress Aiko Melendez prays before and after facing the camera?
“I am a Christian, so I always pray, ‘Lord, role lang po ito. Make me effective without sacrificing my real being and attitude,” she said.
Currently doing good as villainess on “Wildfwlower,” Aiko prays her character, the politically powerful Emilia Ardiente-Torillo, who doesn’t mind committing bloody murder to protect her family’s reputation, stays just that, a character.
Aiko, who is a mother of two beautiful kids, Andrei and Marthena, says she snaps out of her character the moment the director shouts “cut.”
She knows Maja Salvador’s (the lead female protagonist/antagonist as Lily Cruz) fans are cursing her on Twitter. “As the villain, I’m expecting the worst,” Aiko laughed. And, yes, she loves getting meaner by the day.
Aiko knows her character inside out. What she discovered about Emilia moved her to pity.
Emilia, according to Aiko, is a victim of circumstances; a woman pushed to the wall because of things beyond her control.
“I understand where she is coming from,” the actress said.
She is all praises for her co-actors. “I love my ‘Wildflower’ team.”
Aiko admires how Maja attacks her role and her dedication to her job.
“Working with her makes me feel so excited. She’s the best in her generation. Maja delivers, and her acting nuances are great,” gushed Aiko.
“Wildflower” airs right after “Minute To Win It” on ABS-CBN.

Who will Barbie choose?
It’s now in the open that three of Billie’s (Barbie Forteza) bosses on the toprating primetime series “Meant To Be” are out to win her heart. She can’t believe it that Yuan (Ken Chan), Jai (Addy Raj) and Andoy (Jak Roberto) have romantic feelings for her.
Actually there are four of them but Ethan (Ivan Dorschner) has not expressed his true feelings for her yet.
Who will Barbie choose among her admirers? Viewers and netizens have been guessing all these times so they are hooked weeknights on GMA Telebabad.
Meanwhile, on “Destined To Be Yours,” AlDub fans are amazed by Maine Mendoza’s (as Sinag) acting when the character she plays on the show learned the truth about Benjie’s (Alden Richards) real intentions in Pelangi, and that he is actually a Rosales.
Alden’s performance, as he asked forgiveness from Sinag, was equally impressive. Both showed acting depth so different from their comic personas on “Eat Bulaga!.”

Happy birthday (again), Joji!
My friend, corporate image maker and talent manger Joji Dingcong, is one of the few people I know who celebrates his birthday in a span of three months. His multitude of friends always want to throw him a birthday party and it would be rude to say no, right? He is, in fact, having a few more birthday parties next month, way after his actual birthday!
Joji has built a new home in Bacolod City. His friends from the City of Smiles hosted a fun birthday party (among many) for him. The modern home designed by Pendy’s Omon Maravilla is bedecked with Joji’s extensive art collection.
During the lunch party, many of Joji’s St. Scholastica’s Academy-Bacolod girl friends were waiting in anticipation for a very special guest — Derek Ramsay. Derek’s parents Medy and Derek Ramsay Sr. were also present.
After Derek arrived, the birthday celebrator, clad in a cut-out bonded black tunic with a pop art T-shirt inside, went up the Louboutin-red lacquered stairs of his house where he was greeted by Chole Chua with his birthday cake. Guests sang Happy Birthday as Joji made a wish and blew out the candle on the cake. Guests partook of a sumptuous buffet and Fifi L’Amour bubbly, which was flown in for the occasion.
The celebration was capped by a musical performance by successful Bacolod foodie goddess Chole Cuenca Chua.
Guests seen at the event included Brenda Tenk, Ging Cuaycong, civic leader Ginnette Dumancas, caterer Mia Lizares Gonzaga with husband Bobby, Mia Jalandoni Legaspi, BB Legaspi, Ging Ibanez, Cristine Vargas, Jarie Jalandoni Yulo, Cecille Ledesma, Bing Villanueva, Mel Bascon and Lovi Poe.
Joji’s girl friends really went all out to make one of his Bacolod birthday celebrations extra special.
Happy birthday, Joji! And enjoy the remaining parties you have for the month of April!
