Former socialite-model-actress now involved in civic work

Once famous socialite-model-actress Baby Bueno (real name Maria Remedios Bueno-Coady) who made a name in the ’70s as an international ramp model after having been discovered by fashion czar Pitoy Moreno, is now involved in civic work, and passionately at that, benefitting mostly people from her home province of Zambales.
Baby relished being in the limelight, hobnobbing with the rich and mighty, and earning a lot of money. “That was a feat for someone like me who was born poor and who experienced a lot of hardship in my younger days,” Baby said. “But now my priorities are reversed. I now want to give back, to help the needy, especially the young who need to go to school to improve their quality of life, like me when I was young and in their shoes.”
The second of 12 children, Baby went to Manila in search of a job to help her parents support their big family. “Back home, nagtitinda lang ako ng ano-ano like balut at night and fish during the day,” she recalled. While in the city, she was ready and willing to do any lowly job even in a beauty parlor. But lady luck would have her discovered as a fashion model. what with her height and beauty. She worked as model for the likes of Pitoy Moreno, Ben Farrales, Aureo Alonzo, and Dante Ramirez. Then First Lady Imelda Marcos had her as part of her Bagong Anyo fashion shows.
Baby also had her stint in the movies, appearing in Joseph Estrada and Vilma Santos movies (such as “Dragnet” and others) but it was as a ramp model (here and abroad) that she became very successful. After that, she went into business, creating her own fashion line and selling them to royal families especially in Brunei. She also organized local and international fashion shows and art exhibits,
Right now, Baby conducts community service for Aeta communities in Botolan, Zambales and Dumagat communities in Nueva Ecija; and sponsors medical and dental missions in Central Luzon.
Currently, she is supporting the Educational Assistance Program for the province of Benguet which is n collaboration with Governor Crescencio Pacalso’s office and the Mayors’ League headed by Mayor Materno Luspian. The Educational Assistance Program will be launched on April 12 at the Benguet Provincial Capitol. Guest speaker is Sec. Salvador Panelo. Baby will give the closing remarks.
The event is in coordination with Microsoft Phils. and Swiss IT Academy, owned by Baby’s sister Dhang and her husband Sandro Grandjean. The Grandjeans are the organizers.
