Famed musical groups the New Minstrels and The CompanY are teaming up for the first time for what is expected to be an enchantingly nostalgic yet romantic Valentine presentation at the Plenary Hall of the Philippine International Convention Center (PICC) on Feb. 13.
In the past years, it was always the New Minstrels and the Circus Band that Viva Live had been putting together especially in their Valentine concerts.
Moy Ortiz, head of the 32-year old The CompanY, vowed to come up with a really good show, “because I want very much to impress Boss Vic (del Rosario). Para lagi na kaming maalala when they think of their musical projects.”
Aside from Moy, the other members of The CompanY are Sweet Plantado, Annie Quintos and Cecile Bautista, with original member Reuben Laurente who’s been performing abroad luxury ships for many years now. Among their hits are “Everlasting Love,” “Now That I Have You,” “Muntik Na Kitang Minahal,” “Just A Love Song,” “Pakisabi Na Lang,” and “Manila.”
The New Minstrels, on the other hand, will have members (from various generations) Joey Albert, Ding Mercado, Louie Reyes, Eugene Villaluz and Chad Borja. Their hits are “See You There,” “Ikaw Lang,” and “Nothing I Want More.”

Yasmien renews contract with GMA
Talented actress Yasmien Kurdi renewed her contract with GMA Network last Jan. 25. Yasmien, who is co-managed by GMA Artist Center and her husband, Rey Soldevilla Jr., was discovered via reality-based artista search “StarStruck.”
“I am really happy to be a Kapuso. Nagpapasalamat din ako sa pagmamahal na binibigay nila sa akin. Dito na kasi ako sa GMA Network nag-dalaga, nagka-asawa, at dito na rin ako tumanda. Hindi trabaho ’yung nafi-feel mo rito, kundi isang family – mula sa mga nanay-nanayan ko, hanggang sa Artist Center at sa buong GMA – pinaparamdam talaga nila sa akin na it’s my home.”
Yasmien was one of the lead stars of the now-defunct afternoon series “Sa Piling Ni Nanay.”
