LRT 2 East Extension Motoring News

The Light Rail Transit Authority is currently working on servicing more commuters by building the LRT2 East Extension.

The Eastward extension stretches 4 kilometers that goes from Santolan station to Masinag station at the Masinag Junction in Antipolo with the Emerald station in Cainta in between.

According to the LRTA, their aim is to service 75,000 passengers daily. With regards to the trains to be used, the agency is trying to rehabilitate the non-functional trains in preparation for the extension.

Administrator, Light Rail Transit Authority

“Right now, we are in the process of trying to rehabilitate those four. There are actually eight down trains, as far as Line 2 is concern. Meaning, eight trains that are not functional. We hope to be able to make a four more run by the end of the year, if possible. As far as the other four is concern, they are rehabilitatable, so to speak. We’re doing some plans to make them run.”
The LRTA reports that the viaducts for the East extension have been completed and the agency is currently working on the stations. According to the agency, they have already projected the fare cost.

The extension, which has a project cost of P9 Billion, is funded by the government in partnership with the Japan International Cooperation Agency or JICA.

The LRTA says that the target operational date of the East extension is on 2019, right after or before the mid-term elections.
