ABS-CBN still top choice of viewers in September

Viewers nationwide prefer to catch relevant news and inspiring TV series on ABS-CBN as the network registered an average audience share of 45%, or 14 points higher than GMA’s 31%, based on data from Kantar Media.

“FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano,” (34.9%) which celebrates its fourth year on television, continued to top the chart of most-watched programs of Filipinos nationwide.

The hit reality singing TV competition “The Voice Kids” (34.2%) emerged as the preferred TV show on weekends by viewers, while the action-drama “The General’s Daughter” (32.2%) kept its grip on the list of most watched shows for its adrenaline-fueled scenes.

Also completing the roster of most watched shows in September are the Kapamilya network’s weekday and weekend programs, including “Parasite Island” (30.4%), “Maalaala Mo Kaya,” (29.2%), “I Can See Your Voice” (28.6%), “TV Patrol” (27.6%), “Bandila” (26.3%), “Home Sweetie Home: Extra Sweet” (25.8%), “Rated K” (23.7%), “Nang Ngumiti ang Langit” (22.6%), “Kadenang Ginto” (21.6%), the recently-concluded drama series “Los Bastardos” (20.5%) and new early-evening drama series “Pamilya Ko” (22.5%).

Meanwhile, ABS-CBN also won all time blocks in September, asserting its lead in primetime (6:00 PM-12:00 MN) where it recorded 47% share, versus GMA’s 33%; in the afternoon block (3:00 PM-6:00 PM) with 48%, compared to GMA’s 32%; in the noontime block (12:00 NN-3:00 PM) with 48%, versus GMA’s 29%, and in the morning block (6:00 AM-12:00 NN) with 37%, in contrast to GMA’s 29%.

Likewise, the Kapamilya network also emerged triumphant again Metro Manila as it registered 41% share, beating GMA’s 25%. In Mega Manila, ABS-CBN registered 36%, while GMA got 32%.

In Total Luzon, ABS-CBN earned 41%, versus GMA’s 34%. It also won in Total Visayas with 57%, beating GMA’s 24%, as well as in Total Mindanao with 51%, trailing GMA’s 28%.

Multinational audience measurement provider Kantar Media uses a nationwide panel size of 2,610 urban and rural homes that represent 100% of the total Philippine TV viewing population.

GMA Network leads September TV ratings

GMA Network firmly held the top spot in the TV ratings competition in both Urban Luzon and Mega Manila according to the latest data from ratings service provider Nielsen TV Audience Measurement.

GMA recorded an average of 31.7 percent total day people audience share in Urban Luzon, which was ahead of ABS-CBN's 30.7 percent for the month of September (with September 22 to 30 based on overnight data). The said viewer-rich area accounts for 72 percent of all urban TV viewers in the country.

The Kapuso Network led in the morning block with 24.9 percent people audience share, while rival network got 24.1 percent.

GMA also continued its winning streak in the evening block with 34.9 percent versus ABS-CBN's 32.3 percent.

In Urban Luzon's list of top 30 programs, Kapuso Mo, Jessica Soho (KMJS) consistently remained in the number one spot. The award-winning magazine program also dominated the list of most-watched shows in National Urban Philippines.

Following KMJS were Sahaya, 24 Oras, the Alden Richards starrer The Gift, Beautiful Justice, Daig Kayo ng Lola Ko, newest primetime offering One of the Baes, Love You Two, and Amazing Earth.

The recently-launched second season of The Clash also made it to the list of the Network's ratings drivers for the month, followed by StarStruck, The Better Woman, Bubble Gang, Saksi, Pepito Manaloto, Daddy's Gurl, Magpakailanman, Studio 7, 24 Oras Weekend, The Boobay and Tekla Show, Wagas, Eat Bulaga, Hanggang sa Dulo ng Buhay Ko, Prima Donnas, Dahil sa Pag-ibig and Wowowin.

With official data from September 1 to 21, GMA Network similarly won in Mega Manila, which accounts for 60 percent of all urban viewers in the country. The Kapuso Network posted 31.7 percent average total day people audience share, beating ABS-CBN's 28.1 percent. More Kapuso shows also made it to Mega Manila's top programs list with 18 out of the top 30 shows.

Nielsen TV Audience Measurement's client pool covers a total of 32 clients/subscribers consisting of 6 local TV networks including ABS-CBN, TV5, Aksyon TV and CNN Philippines, among others; 3 regional clients; 2 blocktimers; and 21 agencies (17 media agencies, 3 consulting agencies, and 1 digital agency).
