Just recently, the chairmanship of the MARE Foundation was turned over to Jackie Ejercito by former senator Loi Ejercito. The occasion, held at the San Andres Sports Center with Manila Mayor Joseph Estrada as special guest, coincided with Jackie’s 50th birthday and 20th anniversary.
Other members of the new MARE Foundation board are Precy V. Ejercito, vice chairman; Corina Ponce-Enrile Yenko, treasurer; and Ma. Cristina Tantoco Morada, corporate secretary. The directors are Fr. Edward M. Lavin, Maria Rowena O. Ejercito, Gabriel Ma. J. Lopez, Precy V. Mathay, Willin C. Chan, Evelyn Carballo and Benita Tanyag.
MARE Foundation was established in 1996 by then Vice President Joseph Estrada and wife Dr. Loi Ejercito, to help improve the quality of life of underprivileged Filipinos. After more than 20 years, it has helped thousands of Filipinos through medical, dental and surgical missions, medical assistance program, feeding projects, livelihood projects, scholarships and relief assistance to victims of flood, fire and other calamities including conflict situations.
Equally worth mentioning is the Dialysis Center Project of the foundation, which is in partnership with the City Government of Manila. This project, which provides free dialysis sessions to poor Manileños, started at the time when Dr. Loi was still First Lady, wherein she helped build a dialysis center in Malacañang.

Beep™ card expands usage to RRCG P2P buses

Mega Manila commuters can count on their beep™ card for rides on another point-to-point (P2P) bus line.

AF Payments Inc. announced that it has implemented its tap-and-go payment system in RRCG Transport’s P2P buses from Alabang Town Center (ATC) to Greenbelt 1 (Makati City) following a successful public trial last week.

The route operates from 5:30 AM to 8:30 PM with a bus that leaves every 30 minutes. The promo fare (extended until further notice) is P50, while the one-way discounted fare for senior citizens, PWDs, and students is P40. For concessionary beep™ cardholders, the discount is automatically deducted while students who wish to avail of the discount will have to pay in cash. There will be selling booths stationed at the ATC and Greenbelt 1 terminals for those who want to purchase or reload their beep™ card.

“After our rollout in northern Metro Manila P2P buses, we’re catering now to commuters down south. The RRCG Transport P2P bus service is a welcome option for commuters from the south. We are pleased that riders can use the multi-purpose beep™ card to pay for their fares,” said Peter Maher, President and CEO of AF Payments Inc.

The RRCG Transport premium P2P service aims to provide a more convenient and reliable transportation system to residents of southern Metro Manila. These buses provide free Wi-Fi to passengers and are equipped with CCTV cameras for additional security. Compartments underneath have provisions for storing bikes, wheelchairs, and other equipment.

The P2P bus service system was created by the Department of Transportation (DOTr) to help improve traffic as the buses travel nonstop from the terminal to the drop-off point. It also aims to ease commuter woes by cutting travel time compared to normal multi-stop buses. The P2P system currently has routes from Trinoma-Makati and Ortigas-Makati. More P2P routes will be added in the next few months.

The beep™ card is a tap-and-go payment system accepted in all three elevated railways (LRT 1, LRT 2, and MRT 3), select bus lines and at the Cavite Expressway (CAVITEX). It can be purchased for P20, is reloadable and valid for four years. Offsite reloading partners are also now available. More information about beep™ may be obtained at the website and on Facebook (beep card) and Twitter (@beep_card).

In his return to primetime via Kapuso Network’s “Alyas Robin Hood,” Dingdong Dantes showcases the breadth of his acting skills as the series combines action, drama, adventure and comedy.
The series also dramatically demonstrates the inspiring truth that each one of us can be a hero, and able to be of service to other people. The show is action-packed which will surely entice male viewers too.
“Maganda ’yung feeling na magiging part ka ng pag-solve ng isang problem sa lugar ninyo, na tumutulong ka sa community. Pero ang mas mahalaga, siyempre, ay ’yung paghahanap ng katotohanan. I think isa ’yun sa gustong ma-achieve ng character sa kuwento – malaman kung saan nagmula, sino ang may kagagawan ng lahat,” the actor said of his role.
His co-stars are Andrea Torres and 2013 Miss World Megan Young. Joining them are seasoned actors Cherie Gil, Sid Lucero, Jaclyn Jose; and playing key roles are Paolo Contis, Gary Estrada, John Feir, Tanya Gomez, Gio Alvarez, Lindsay de Vera, Dave Bornea, and Caprice Cayetano. Businessman marks 92nd milestone
Successful businessman (Harrison Plaza among other ventures) Antonio Martel marked his 92nd birthday this year but unlike before, he opted for a quiet Sunday dinner with only family (wife, children and grandchildren) in attendance.
A hearty eater at his age, wife Belen is glad Tony only takes two kinds of pills: His maintenance for blood pressure and aspirin.
The party is a far cry from the one last year held at the Main Lounge of Manila Polo Club. It was a Filipiniana event with 400 guests. They had the Bayanihan dancers, the Pangkat Kawayan, the Madrigal Singers and other performers.
The year before, when Tony turned 90, he had his birthday party at the Isla Ballroom of the EDSA Shangri-La Hotel with 500 well-wishers.

LRT-MRT common station agreement to be signed this month

Department of Transportation (DOTr) Secretary Arthur Tugade has confirmed that the agreement on the LRT-MRT common station will be signed this month.

The common station is set to be built between Ayala Land’s Trinoma Mall and SM North EDSA in Quezon City. The station would connect the Metro Rail Transit Line 3 (MRT-3), the Light Rail Transit Line 1 (LRT-1), and the proposed MRT Line 7 in Quezon City. According to Tugade, stakeholders Ramon Ang, Vice-Chairman, President and COO of San Miguel Corporation, Manuel V. Pangilinan, Chairman of TV5 Network, Philex Mining, Philex Petroleum, and Metro Pacific Investments Corporation (MPIC) and Jaime Augusto Zóbel de Ayala II, chairman and CEO of Ayala Corporation, chairman of the board of directors of Globe Telecom, Bank of the Philippine Islands, and Integrated Microelectronics Inc. (IMI); vice chairman of the board of directors and member of the Executive Committee of Ayala Land, Inc. (ALI); vice chairman of Manila Water Company, Inc.; and co-chairman and trustee of Ayala Foundation, Inc., have agreed to finalize the project after a private meeting with him.

“We tried to meet separately and collectively with all the stakeholders. The last meeting was done yesterday with no less than the heads, stakeholders meeting with me, in a private meeting,” Sec. Tugade said.

Tugade also confirmed that SM Prime Holdings agreed on the location of the common station between The Annex at SM City North EDSA and Trinoma Mall. Tugade also explained that the stakeholders saw the importance of having one single station and that they agreed on the intention to not burden commuters in making them walk distantly.

“What we have basically agreed upon, number 1, all of them saw the importance of 1 single station. All of them saw the difficulty of making people walk to do connectivity between LRT’s and MRT’s,” he explained.

The location of the common station, however, has yet to be finalized. The current court battle between SMPH and ALI impeded this decision.

On September 28, 2009, SM Prime Holdings had a deal with the LRT Authority to construct the common station in front of The Annex at SM City North EDSA.

On January 25, 2010, SM Prime Holdings gave 200 million pesos to LRTA for the naming rights of the common station. But on May 30, 2013, former DOTC secretary Joseph Emilio Abaya decided to transfer the location of the common station near Trinoma Mall. The case reached the court but SM Prime Holdings loss the case. The 200-million peso cash bond is still in the possession of LRTA and will be sent back as soon as possible.

The DOT is proposing a budget of P55.47 billion for 2017, 25 percent higher than this year’s budget.

The great equalizer

The LRT-MRT common station in SM City North Edsa, which aims to connect the LRT Line 1, MRT Line 3, and the proposed MRT Line 7, has been in the government’s pipeline for several years now. Unfortunately, there have been delays in the construction due to the technicalities and disagreements among parties involved.

During the Department of Transportation budget hearing last Friday, I had the chance to inquire on the development of this project. According to Transportation Secretary Arthur Tugade, the parties involved have finally agreed to proceed with the construction. My question is, what exactly was their agreement? Where exactly will the common station be?

During the 14th Congress, I took part in crafting a resolution to construct a common railway station at SM City North Edsa. With the convenience of the commuters in mind, we believe that a common station would ease the daily transportation grind of the working class. Our resolution originally proposed to construct the railway interchange in front of SM City North Edsa. The alignment was changed during the previous administration as the North-end station of the MRT Line 3 was relocated beside TriNoMa Mall, an Ayala property. We would like to revisit this new design of the LRT-MRT common station in North Edsa as we hope to avoid the blunder of the Gateway Mall connection, where commuters have to walk approximately 700 meters to transfer from MRT Line 3 to LRT Line 2. This kind of set-up favors only the interests of the mall owners and not of the working class. In other countries such as Hong Kong and New York, interchange stations only require commuters to go up or down a platform or walk a few meters to transfer railway lines. Why can’t we implement the same here?

The government recognizes the big role of the country’s top corporations in making the LRT-MRT common station project possible. SM Prime Holdings Inc. together with the Light Rail Manila Consortium (LRMC) is the concessionaire for the operations, maintenance and extension of LRT-1, of which Metro Pacific Light Rail Corp. (MPLRC), a subsidiary of Metro Pacific Investments Corp., is the controlling shareholder, and the Universal LRT Corp. (ULC), a unit of San Miguel Holdings Corp., should collaborate to construct a bona fide LRT-MRT common station in SM City North Edsa. We have to make sure that the deal does not favor anyone but the public.

We in the minority firmly believe that the concept of mass transit is the great equalizer between a rich man and a poor man. To paraphrase, a developed country is not where everybody rides a private vehicle; it is one where the rich and the working class ride the train together. As a prime advocate of long-term traffic solutions and as one of the initiators of the construction of the common station, I commit to be proactive in ensuring that this project gets done the soonest. My only appeal to the public is to remain patient as this construction would affect the current traffic condition. Rest assured, it will all be worth it.

ANG PASKO AY SUMAPIT

ang Pasko ay sumapit
tayo ay mangagsiawit
ng magagandang himig
dahil sa Diyos ay pag-ibig
nang si Kristo ay isilang
may tatlong haring nagsidalaw
at ang bawa't isa
ay nagsipaghandog ng tanging alay

Koro:
Bagong Taon ay magbagong-buhay
nang lumigaya
ang ating bayan
tayo'y magsikap
upang makamtan natin
ang kasaganaan
tayo'y mangagsiawit
habang ang mundo ay tahimik
ang araw ay sumapit
ng sanggol na dulot ng langit
tayo ay magmahalan
ating sundin ang gintong aral
at magbuhat ngayon

masdan niyo at nagpapaligsahan

Maligaya, maligayang Pasko
Kayo ay bigyan masagana,
Masaganang Bagong Taon
ay kamtan ipagdiwang,
Ipagdiwang araw ng maykapal
Upang manatili sa atin
Ang kapalaran at mabuhay
nang lagi sa kapayapaan

naririto kami ngayon
humahalik sa inyong kamay
salamat ninong, salamat ninang
sa aginaldo pong inyong ibibigay

House urges govt to look at public welfare on common rail station decision by Ben Rosario September 16, 2016 Read more at http://www.mb.com.ph/house-urges-govt-to-look-at-public-welfare-on-common-rail-station-decision/#pV31jcM1D91rfjsy.99

The House minority bloc called on government to give public welfare utmost consideration as it resolves a tug-of-war between two shopping mall giants over the putting up of a common station that could bring in tremendous business prospects.

This was gathered as the Department of Transportation disclosed that the 11.7 kilometer Light Rail Transit (LRT-1) extension in Cavite is expect to be completed in 2021, with construction set to commence next year.

Minority Leader Danilo Suarez said the construction of the common Metro Rail Transit-Light Rail Transit station at the intersection of EDSA and North Avenue is being contested by the country’s leading mall operators but government planners appear to have leaned towards the interest of one of them to the detriment of the riding public.

“We find it necessary to revisit the new design of the LRT-MRT common station in North EDSA as we don’t want a mistake siilar to the Gateway Mall connection, where commuters have to walk approximately 700 meters to transfer from MRT LIne 3 to LRT Line 2,” said Suarez in a recent press conference.

He admitted that the Cubao mall mass transit link was originally intended to be constructed at the northern side of the Cubao EDSA-Aurora blvd intersection for the convenience of the riding public and to allow swifter transfer of passengers.

For still unexplained reasons, government transportation officials abandoned the plan. Thus, riders have to walk in between two Araneta Center malls to be able to transfer rides.

House minority wants to revisit new design for LRT-MRT common link station Published September 14, 2016 3:56pm - See more at: http://www.gmanetwork.com/news/story/581362/money/companies/house-minority-wants-to-revisit-new-design-for-lrt-mrt-common-link-station#sthash.zlhVsPT7.dpuf

Congressmen led by Minority Leader Danilo Suarez on Wednesday expressed the need to "revisit" and closely monitor the new design to be laid down by the government for the common link station to connect the Light Rail Transit (LRT) and Metro Rail Transit (MRT) lines.

Transportation Secretary Arthur Tugade earlier told lawmakers that stakeholders had agreed to build the common station in between SM North and Trinoma in Quezon City. The memorandum of agreement is set to be signed on September 28.

But on Wednesday, the minority congressmen said they would closely monitor the progress of the common station project to ensure that it does not favor anyone but the public.

"We find it necessary to revisit the new design of the LRT-MRT common station in North EDSA as we don't want a mistake similar to the Gateway Mall connection, where commuters have to walk approximately 700 meters to transfer from MRT Line 3 to LRT Line 2," said the minority.

"We wonder then the interests served here. Is it that of the mall owners?," asked the minority in a statement read by Suarez to the media during a news conference.

The group said that interchange stations in Hong Kong and New York only require commuters to go up or down a platform or walk a few meters to transfer railway lines.

"There must be an assurance na huwag mo paglalakarin ang commuters.... Sa bago nilang assignment na iniisip, mababasa ka pa ng ulan para lumipat ka sa kabilang istasyon," said Suarez.

In his group's statement, the congressmen said: "We in the minority firmly believe that the concept of a mass transit is the great equalizer between a rich man and a poor man. To paraphrase, a developed country is not where everybody rides a private vehicle; it is one where the rich and the working class ride the train together."

During a House hearing on the Department of Transportation's budget last week, Tugade had vowed that the parties would have reached a common agreement before the plenary budget deliberations in October.

Among those who agreed build the common station are San Miguel Corporation (SMC) president and CEO Ramon Ang, Metro Pacific Investments Corp. (MPIC) chairman Manny V. Pangilinan, and business tycoon Jaime Augusto Zobel de Ayala II.

The P1.4-billion project will link LRT-1, MRT-3, and the proposed MRT-7 – from the North Avenue station to San Jose del Monte in Bulacan, via Commonwealth Avenue.

The P63-billion MRT-7 is to be constructed by Universal LRT Corp. (ULC), a unit of San Miguel Holdings Corp. Once completed, the 22.8-kilometer MRT- 7 line would traverse the northeast direction of Quezon City, Caloocan, and Bulacan. It is designed to carry around two million passengers a year.

Meanwhile, the P65-billion LRT-1 Cavite extension project was awarded to the Light Rail Manila Consortium – a joint venture between MPIC and the Ayala Group.

The extension project would stretch the LRT-1 from Baclaran in Pasay City to Niog in Bacoor, Cavite.

Under the Aquino administration, the then-Department of Transportation and Communications decided to have the proposed P1.4-billion common station at the TriNoMa Mall – rather than in front of SM City North EDSA.

TriNoMa mall is owned by North Triangle Depot Commercial Corp., a 73.24-percent subsidary of Ayala Land Inc.

According to the previous DOTC management, the common station was relocated after a study showed that the government can save P800 million to P1 billion if the station is built close to Trinoma, an adjacent mall owned by competitor Ayala Land Inc.

The DOTC had said that the agreement with SM Prime expired in 2011 but the Sy-led developer claimed there was no expiry date provided in the documents.

In November 2013, Malacanang approved the P1.4 billion construction of the LRT1 North Extension Project – Common Station.

The project involves the provision of a common station for LRT1, MRT3 and eventually MRT7. Head to head platforms for LRT1 and MRT3 with a 147.4-meter elevated walk-a-lator to the proposed MRT7 at North Avenue near SM Sky Dome will be constructed. It also comes with a footbridge at the southbound side of the North Avenue Station, near Hotel Sogo.— RSJ, GMA News

KathNiel returns via ‘Barcelona: A Love Untold’ by Crispina Martinez - Belen September 12, 2016

The much-loved tandem of Daniel Padilla and Kathryn Bernardo returns through Star Cinema’s latest offering “Barcelona: A Love Untold.” Touted as this year’s biggest movie event, the movie marks the first teamup of KathNiel with director Olivia M. Lamasan.

“Barcelona” is the first full-length feature film of Daniel and Kathryn since their smash hit “Crazy Beautiful You,” and their first project together since their top-rating primetime series “Pangako Sa’Yo” concluded early this year. In “Barcelona,” billed an unusual tale of love, Kathryn and Daniel showcase their mettle and intensity as serious dramatic actors.

Daniel plays Ely, a young man who can’t get over his past love. Kathryn, on the other hand is Mia, a young woman who is rebuilding her life. They will meet in Barcelona, Spain where they will unexpectedly fall in love.

Olivia is best remembered for such classic films as “Madrasta,” “The Mistress,” “Milan,” and “Starting Over Again.” Under her direction, Daniel and Kathryn shed their teen idol status, showing competence in portraying authentic adult experiences, problems and emotions.

Also starring Aiko Melendez, Ana Capri, Cris Villanueva, Liza Dino and Ricky Davao, “Barcelona: A Love Untold” opens tomorrow in cinemas nationwide.

Mikee enjoys playing Lira

In the top-rating GMA telefantasya “Encantadia,” Mikee Quintos plays the role of Lira, which was portrayed in the original series by Jennylyn Mercado. The young actress admitted to enjoying the role, especially that it is involved in an important twist in the story. Apparently, Lira is not really the daughter of Amihan (Kylie Padilla) but of Pirena (Glaiza de Castro).

A newcomer, Mikee is grateful and happy she was cast in “Encantadia.” She feels pressure but Mikee stays focused.

“The pressure is there because look at her (Jennylyn) now, how big a star she is now. I don’t want to compare that much kasi iba-iba naman lahat when you attack a role. I tried researching din and nanonood ako ng dating ‘Encantadia,’ inaral ko kung papaano niya ginampanan si Lira. But then nu’ng dumadami na ’yung scenes niya, nag-stop ako manood kasi baka magaya ko siya. I focused on studying the script and how am I gonna give life to Lira in my own way,” said Mikee.

“Encantadia,” which also stars Gabbi Garcia, Sanya Lopez, John Arcilla, Ruru Madrid, Pancho Magno, Vaness Del Moral and Rocco Nacino, among others, airs weeknights after “24 Oras.”

Former TV host-singer gets second chance in life by Crispina Martinez - Belen September 7, 2016 (updated)

Despite the many heartaches and trials he went through, Romano Vasquez did not give up. The former mainstay of German Moreno’s “That’s Entertainment” has bounced back to conquer the entertainment scene again.

Romano’s showbiz career dipped when that show folded. He tried to forge a career in Japan but it didn’t work out. He eventually succumbed to depression. For a time, things got so bad he was said to have lived on the streets until a Good Samaritan adopted him. Later, Romano begged to be accepted by his own father and like the prodigal son, he was welcomed back to the household.

While recovering from his trials, Romano met his future wife Alma whom he said was instrumental in his decision to finally change for the better and for good.

It was perfect timing. Someone by the name of Princess Merriam Kiram of Sulu invited him to join the multi-level marketing company JC Premiere Business Int’l. He soon became an independent distributor, then international and local speaker-trainer of the company. In no time, he was back on his feet again.

Looking back, Romano believes everything happened for a reason.

“Most of the time we are blinded from seeing the ‘greater good.’ We all need to face the challenges in our lives with a positive attitude,” he said.

Through Maryo J. de los Reyes’ Productions 56 Inc., Romano has returned to his first love: Singing. He has just released the album “Chicken Adobo.”

“I relate it with my life now. That life is really like a dish. All the mistakes and failures are not the opposite of success, but rather the ingredients of success.”

Statement smile

What do showbiz personalities Boy Abunda, Piolo Pascual, Derek Ramsay, Sarah Geronimo, Kim Chiu, John Lloyd Cruz and Lovi Poe have in common? Well, all of them have flocked to the Gan Advances Osseointegration Center or GAOC seeking that perfect statement smile.

The oral health center was put up in 2001 by Dr. Steve Mark Gan who is educated both in the Philippines and the US. Within its confines is a state of the art X-ray room that provides a 360 degree view of one’s mouth which allows dentists and assistants freedom of movement during surgeries.

Sikat ng umaga
Buhos ng ulan
Simoy ng dapithapon
Sinag ng buwan
Batis na malinaw
Dagat na bughaw
Gayon ang Panginoon kong
Hesus ng aking buhay

Saan man ako bumaling
Ika’y naroon
Tumalikod man sa ‘yo
Dakilang pag-ibig mo
Sa aki’y tatawag at magpapaalalang
Ako’y iyong iniibig
At siyang itatapat sa puso

Tinig ng kaibigan
Oyayi ng ina
Pag-asa ng ulila
Bisig ng dukha
Ilaw ng may takot
Ginhawa ng aba
Gayon ang Panginoon kong
Hesus ng aking buhay

Saan man ako bumaling
Ika’y naroon
Tumalikod man sa ‘yo
Dakilang pag-ibig mo
Sa aki’y tatawag at magpapaalalang
Ako’y iyong iniibig

Inspirational song "Out of Roads" music by Fr. Arnel dC Aquino, SJ

Out of roads
Music by: Arnel Dc Aquino sj . Lyrics: Johnny Go sj
Arranger: Arnel Dc Aquino Sj . Performer: Veepee Pinpin

I just run out of roads again
Don't know where to turn
I started counting stars again
Then I lost my way

I just ran out of time again
Will I ever learn?
To stop my chase of hours again
Only to learn I've lost the day?

The last thing I need
Is to hear this whisper in the wind
The last thing I want
Is this voice that rises from within

I'll need to go home soon, I know
But maybe tomorrow, not now
When the last thing I need here and now
Is the lasting need for You

I've been rushing out of rooms again
Too afraid to stay
I've been dreaming of some rainbow's end
But the colors melt away

Should my heart be like an open door
Helpless to the storm
Permit Your wind to touch my soul
Only to leave this aching song?

The last thing I need
Is to hear this whisper in the wind
The last thing I want
Is this voice that rises from within

I'll need to go home soon, I know
But maybe tomorrow, not now
When the last thing I need here and now
Is the lasting need for You

The one thing I need
Is to hear this whisper in the wind
The last thing I want
Is this voice that rises from within

I need to go home soon to You
Won't wait for tomorrow, right now
Is this haunthing need for You
This haunting need for You

Multiply was a social networking service with an emphasis on allowing users to share media – such as photos, videos and blog entries – with their "real-world" network. The website was launched in March 2004 and was privately held with backing by Venture Partners, Point Judith Capital, Transcosmos, and private investors. Multiply had over 11 million registered users. The company was headquartered in Boca Raton, Florida but moved to Jakarta, Indonesia early in 2012 and recently announced intentions to switch to e-commerce, dropping the social networking aspect entirely. Quantcast estimates Multiply had 2.47 million monthly U.S. unique visitors at their peak on July 30, 2012.

On Multiply, a user's network was made up of their direct contacts, as well as others who are closely connected to them through their first-degree relationships. Additionally, users were encouraged to specify the nature of their relationship with one another, making it possible to share content with their entire network of closely related people, or subsets thereof including friends, family, professional contacts, and so on.

May 31, 2013 officially marked the closing of their operations whilst expressing the hope that the website might reorganize, retain Jakarta, Indonesia as headquarters, and reopen as a social networking service in the future.

Multiply tried to be the one-stop shop for a user's Web 2.0 experience. Its bid is enhanced by the capabilities with which it empowers its users. There was a blog module, of course, but beyond that, users could upload videos, and host them on their pages rather than on third-party pages. Videos could also be added from major sites, notably YouTube. The user could also upload unlimited photos into their albums, hosted in the photo module. There were also modules for music, reviews, links, recipes, and a personal marketplace.

A blog traditionally followed a linear format (each entry rests above the other in chronological order regardless of the type of content that is included in the post). Though it is possible to have a traditional style blog on Multiply, content could also be organized according to the type of post (text, video, photo, etc.) or by topic (using tagged content boxes). By organizing posts based on topic or type of media, a user can essentially create a personal web page.

Multiply provided blog cross-posting; blog entries posted to Multiply could be automatically posted to a LiveJournal, Blogger or TypePad account. There was also an option to post via e-mail or MMS, enabling posting from mobile phones. Users could also post reviews (of movies and books, for example), and share a calendar of events. Multiply also reintroduced the Marketplace and Recipes modules, which allowed users to share interests in purchases, and favorite foods and drinks.

Multiply was especially flexible in that users could choose to edit their background and theme colors, but the ability to incorporate CSS makes customizing more extensive. Many users had pages far different from the base theme due to their mastery of CSS.

Traditional Blogging
Blog posts on Multiply included the ability to easily change font style, type, color or size. Photos could be added and moved about within the post. A poll could be included and files could be attached. Users could use Multiply's WYSIWYG blog editor or edit HTML directly.

As with all types of posts on Multiply, users could set privacy settings on a per post basis, enabling a user to essentially run a private blog for friends and family right on top of, or embedded within, a public blog. (In other words, a user can post thoughts on politics to a public audience while reserving posts on the cute things the kids did for only friends and family. Both types of posts were treated the same by Multiply in terms of alerts to the poster and the poster's contacts, but the privacy settings limit the content to only those that the user wants to give access to.)

Unlimited Photo Sharing
All accounts on Multiply included the ability to add an unlimited number of photos. In addition to being able to share photos with contacts on Multiply, users could also let non-Multiply members see even their private photos by using the "share" link.

Multiply offered limited editing capabilities for photos: Photos could be rotated and a variety of picture frames can be added. Using the Multiply Media Locker users could crop photos, eliminate red eye, retouch photos, adjust contrast, exposure, and saturation. There was also an Auto Fix function that adjusted photos with one click. All of the adjustments were reversible until clicked to apply them.

Photos in albums could be embedded into other posts or replies on Multiply, or they could be hotlinked outside of Multiply, in which case a watermark is added.

Multiply had partnered with QOOP for photo printing and other photo services.

Multiply had an Auto Uploading tool which automatically uploads your photos into your Media Locker where they are stored until you choose to share them. For premium users the full size original was stored indefinitely.

Videos
Users could easily upload videos directly to Multiply, or they could pull video in from YouTube, Photobucket, Google Video, Metacafe, or myspacetv.com. Free users could upload up to 10 minutes (or 100mb of video footage). Premium members had a limit of 20 minutes (or 200mb).

Calendar
Users could post calendar entries for themselves, for their contacts, their network or even for public access (enabling users to keep personal entries, such as doctor appointments, private, while allowing a wider audience for such entries as a fund raising event that is open to the public).

Users had access to an aggregated calendar on their Inbox page that collects all of their calendar entries as well as those of their contacts and displays them in one calendar feed.

Calendar entries, as with all entries on Multiply, could be discussed within the calendar entry post, enabling members to not only announce an event, but discuss it as well.

Reviews
Users could add reviews to their website, not only rating and explaining their view on the product, but discussing it as well with friends and family. Reviews used a 5 star system so both those who post and those who reply can rate how well they liked a product.

Recipes
The recipe section was a component of Multiply at the time of its launch in 2004, but it was removed for a time. The recipe and marketplace sections were returned in 2007 due to popular demand.

Marketplace
The marketplace section was designed to be a way to showcase items that a person may want to pass on to contacts or to search for an item that a user's contacts may have.

Music
Since its inception the website had allowed users to upload music playlists to their profile page. Initially users could upload up to 10 songs at a time with an unlimited number of songs allowed on any given playlist (they could upload more songs after the first ten by starting a second upload and specifying that they should be added to a pre-existing playlist.) This brought the site initial popularity due to the ease with which people could share copyrighted digital music. Originally one could download each track individually in mp3 format.

In order to combat illegal music sharing (as the intent was for users to be able to share only music that they had the legal right to), the site cut the maximum uploads at one time to five, and then to three. They then removed the ability to easily right click and download each individual track and instead put a link to a *.m3u playlist file. However users could simply save that file and open it with a text editor, and then cut and paste the individual file links and save the mp3 files.

In July 2008, the site removed the ability to download the *.m3u playlist file and replaced it with an embedded music player. However users can still use third party software to obtain the original mp3 files (which are also stored in a computer's download cache.) Nonetheless, these changes (as well as the large number of users forcibly removed from the site due to copyright violations) have affected the size of the user base.

Inbox newsfeed
Multiply had a newsfeed since its inception, variously called the "Explore" page, "My Multiply" and the "Inbox". This feed aggregates not only the user's posts, but those of the user's contacts, network and groups as well, using technology that Multiply has patented. The inbox alerts users not only to new posts by their contacts or within their network, but it also notifies users of new replies to posts that users have shown an interest in. If a user ignores a post, then the post is not popped to the top of the page no matter how many new replies are made. In this way, users don't need to "clean up" their inbox because uninteresting posts simply "drop off" the page.

The feed was highly customizable, allowing the user to set filters to show specific posts. Filters could be saved and users can easily switch between them. In this way, users were only alerted to posts and replies that are interesting to them, though they can switch to a "wider" view of network or group activity when that is preferred.

Groups
In addition to networking with your "real life" friends and family, Multiply also provided a way to meet and socialize with other members through groups.

Registered users could create groups on Multiply. These groups exist outside of the "network" structure, enabling people with certain interests to share the aforementioned types of media with others who share their interests, but may not be closely connected to them through relationships.

Groups were categorized as Business, Computers & Internet, Cultures & Community, Entertainment & Arts, Friends & Family, Games, Government & Politics, Health & Wellness, Hobbies & Crafts, Money & Investing, Places & Travel, Recreation & Sports, Religion & Beliefs, Romance & Relationships, Schools & Education, Science & History, and Other.

Migration from MSN Groups
In February 2009, MSN Groups closed to make way for the new Windows Live Groups. Communities hosted on the old MSN Groups service can not be migrated across to the new platform. As such MSN have worked with Multiply to create a tool which allowed group owners to move their MSN Groups community over to the Multiply service.

This move by MSN and Multiply succeeded in killing off a large number of MSN Groups communities. This was due to the fact that the migration process was rather complex, essentially creating a new group, importing content from the old one.

This meant that all existing MSN users had to re-join the new group, and if the old community located on MSN Groups was not closed by the owner after the migration process, any changes made afterward were to be lost when the service closed.

Details of the migration process could be found on the MSN Groups homepage which has subsequently been removed and now directs to a Microsoft Account log in page, however information regarding Groups' closure and migration to Multipy has been preserved on a Windows Live blog.

With the announced closure of Multiply's social networking sites, members who used the site for that purpose are looking for alternatives offering similar features. While Multiply has not announced a partnership with any other web site or sites for the purposes of migration as MSN did, the CEO did promise to provide "easy ways for you to either download your stuff (photos, blogs, content, etc), or migrate it to other online services" with details to be announced at a later date.

Personal website
Though Multiply did provide a profile page for users, that was not the main focal point of a user's Multiply presence. Rather, each user had a home page where all of their recent content was aggregated. The content boxes on this home page could be rearranged and could be aligned into a one or two column format (or a mixture of both). Tagged content boxes could also be added and unwanted boxes could be hidden.

Users could customize the overall look of their site using either one-click customization tools that Multiply provides or by adding customizations with CSS.

Awards & recognitions
In 2008, Multiply was named Open Web Awards finalist.

Headquarters moves to Indonesia
As Multiply expanded to include e-commerce, the announcement was made that the company was moving from its headquarters in Florida to Indonesia.

Multiply announces closure of social networking site
An official announcement by Multiply's CEO, Stefan Magdalinski, was made on August 9, 2012, that the social networking portion of Multiply would be discontinued, including hosted blogs, videos, photos and messaging, in order to focus solely on e-commerce. Multiply International ceased its social network on March 23, 2013. One month later, Multiply announced that all services of both Indonesian and International would close, making the site entirely defunct, and the company is now bankrupt.

It was set to be close down by the order of Securities and Exchange Commission.

A thanksgiving party was held at the EDSA Shangrila-La Hotel recently in celebration of the success of the first ToFarm Film Festival, which will be screened at SM City Cebu, then at SM Davao Ecoland next month.

The event coincided with the announcement of the 2nd ToFarm Film Festival with the theme “Planting the Seeds of Change.” While the first ToFarm Film Festival, focused on giving the public a glimpse of the farmers’ plight, the second installment of the festival looks to the future. “With attention channeled to leveling up the agricultural sector by merging the traditional with the modern,” the organizers said.

Like in the first ToFarm Film Festival, six film scripts will be selected by the screening committee and each would be given a P1.5 million grant. Entries should be submitted no later than Nov. 18 to the ToFarm Secretariat Office at Harvester Corporate Center on P. Tuazon St. in Cubao.

The stories should be original. It could be fictional or inspired by true accounts but it should ultimately be about a farmer, livestock raiser, fisher folk or other individuals whose livelihood is related to agriculture.

The Best Film will receive P500,000; the 2nd Best Film, P400,000; and the 3rd Best Film, P300,000. The Special Jury Award comes with P100,000 cash prize. The awarding ceremonies will be held on July 18, 2017.

The ToFarm Film Festival is pioneered by Universal Harvester Inc. Executive Vice President Dr. Milagros How, with Maryo J. delos Reyes as festival director.

MPIC eyes construction of C-5 South Link by 2017 By Louella Desiderio (The Philippine Star) | Updated September 5, 2016 - 12:00am

A unit of Metro Pacific Investments Corp. (MPIC) is planning to start the construction of the 7.7-kilometer, six-lane C-5 South Link Expressway, which will connect C-5 road to the Manila-Cavite Toll Expressway (Cavitex) by early next year instead of this year.

Cavitex Infrastructure Corp. (CIC) president Luigi Bautista said the construction for the expressway’s first phase covering a flyover to connect C-5 Road in Taguig City to Merville in Sucat, Parañaque City, which costs P2.5 billion, has yet to start.

“(We) hope to start first quarter of 2017,” he said in a text message.

Construction for the first phase was initially expected to begin in July this year after the no-objection to the project was given by Skyway operator Skyway O&M Corp.

“We are still missing the no objection,” Bautista said.

The expressway’s second phase, which will cover Merville to Coastal Road (Cavitex), is estimated to cost around P7.5 billion.

Earlier, the company said the new expressway is expected to be completed by 2019.

When completed, the C-5 South Link is expected to benefit those coming from Cavite, Las Piñas and parts of Parañaque by having a direct link to and from C-5 to Cavitex.

It will likewise provide a seamless connection to the 45-kilometer Cavite-Laguna Expressway awarded to MPIC under the public-private partnership program and is slated for completion in 2020.

About 40,000 to 45,000 vehicles are seen to use the C-5 South Link when it starts commercial operations.

Once operational, the C-5 South Link is also expected to contribute about 15 percent of the revenues of MPIC’s tollway arm Metro Pacific Tollways Corp. (MPTC).

MPIC through MPTC is the largest toll operator in the country.

Aside from the Cavitex network of toll roads, the group operates the North Luzon Expressway and the Subic-Clark-Tarlac Expressway.

In July, MPIC won the contract for the North Luzon Expressway-South Luzon Expressway Connector Road as no comparative proposals were received from other firms for a Swiss Challenge organized by the Department of Public Works and Highways.

The infrastructure conglomerate is also involved in the Cebu-Cordova Bridge Project which covers a toll bridge to connect Cebu City to Mactan Island via Cordova.

Ratings race: ABS-CBN leads nationwide, GMA holds Urban Luzon

ABS-CBN Corp. said it has kept its nationwide lead in TV ratings, while rival GMA Network, Inc. said that it still led the race among broadcast networks in Urban Luzon for the month of August.

Citing data from Kantar Media, ABS-CBN said that it has a 47% audience share nationwide, 14 points higher than that of GMA at 33%.

On the other hand, GMA quoted ratings provider Nielsen TV Audience Management, reporting that it has a 40.4% share among audiences in Urban Luzon -- a region which GMA said accounts for 77% of urban TV households nationwide. This is seven points higher than ABS-CBN’s 33.4%, and 34.1-points more than TV5’s 6.3%.

The two media giants subscribe to different TV audience measurement providers. ABS-CBN said Kantar Media uses a nationwide panel size of 2,610 urban and rural homes, while GMA said Nielsen data has a nationwide sample size of 3,500 urban and rural homes.

For the prized primetime block, ABS-CBN said it has captured half of the national audience share, leading over GMA by 19 points.

Other Kapamilya shows in the top ten are Wansapanataym (34.1 percent), TV Patrol (32.7 percent), MMK (31.8 percent), Home Sweetie Home (28.2 percent), Goin Bulilit (27.2 percent), TV Patrol Weekend (22.4 percent) and Rated K (21.5 percent).

Kantar Media uses a nationwide panel size of 2,610 urban and rural homes that represent 100 percent of the total Philippine TV viewing population, while the other ratings data supplier AGB Nielsen reportedly has 2,000 homes based in urban areas that represent only 57 percent of the Philippine TV viewing population.

Aside from primetime, ABS-CBN said that it has also led other time blocks nationwide: the morning block (6 a.m. to noon) with 41% to GMA’s 35%; the noontime block (noon to 3 p.m.) with 45% to GMA’s 33%; and afternoon block (3 to 6 p.m.) with 48% to GMA’s 32%.

Meanwhile, GMA said that it had more programs ranking in the top 30 list of top-rating programs in Urban Luzon, with Encantadia topping the list among GMA shows.

On the other hand, according to Nielsen data, the top 10 TV shows for August belonged to ABS-CBN, led by FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano by 41.2%. In the same list, GMA’s Encantadia ranked 13th, taking up 21% of audience share.

Besides Encantadia, other programs from GMA also dominated the top 10 including Magpakailanman, Kapuso Mo, Jessica Soho, Descendants of the Sun, Pepito Manaloto, and 24 Oras.

Also in the top 30 list in Urban Luzon are 24 Oras Weekend, Ismol Family, Sunday PinaSaya, Hay Bahay!, Eat Bulaga, Magkaibang Mundo, Sinungaling Mong Puso, Sa Piling ni Nanay, Juan Happy Love Story, Imbestigador, Lip Sync Battle Philippines, Wowowin, Karelasyon, Bubble Gang and Saksi.
