In a recent dinner press conference held at his residence in Corinthian Gardens in Ortigas, former Ilocos Sur Gov. Luis “Chavit” Singson (now Councilor of Narvacan, Ilocos Sur) said he will do everything to make the 2016 Miss Universe pageant (which reports say will be held in the Philippines) a big success, and without expenditure on the part of the government. It will purely be under the private sector, but in cooperation with the Department of Tourism under Secretary Wanda T. Teo.
For the big event, which will entail a budget of about $13-million, Councilor Chavit had started tapping possible sponsors including big casino-hotels where the candidates and the Miss Universe entourage will be billeted.
Aside from the Miss Universe 2016 pageant, Chavit is busy with the production of a TV series titled “Happy Life” under the helm of Eric Quizon. Many may not be aware of the fact that Chavit’s mother used to produce movies under her own production called Northern Star Productions.
Eric will also be in charge of movies that Chavit will produce. “We’ll get the best directors, the most beautiful and talented actors, and even Miss Universe 2015 Pia Wurtzbach if she’s interested….”
Asked if he is in favor of Sen. Manny Pacquiao going back to the ring, Chavit said in part, “Dapat suportahan natin siya because he is giving honor to our country.”
He also supports President Duterte’s campaign against drugs and is also in favor of the imposition of the death penalty.
On the government’s decision to have the late Pres. Ferdinand Marcos buried at Libingan Ng Mga Bayani, Chavit said, “Dapat lang para matapos na. Naging sundalo naman siya, at naging presidente…”
Chavit is also in favor of federalism.
