- President Rodrigo Duterte’s beef with ABS-CBN is far from over.
- The President slammed Gabby Lopez III for allegedly swindling him.
- Amid insults, Mocha Uson still gets TV appearances in ABS-CBN.
We all thought President Rodrigo Duterte has forgiven and forgotten about his beef with top media network, ABS-CBN. He, however, threatened to block ABS-CBN’s franchise renewal (again).
In a speech, the President slammed chairman emeritus Eugenio “Gabby” Lopez III for allegedly swindling him.
New threats.
In the said speech, the President said:
“Yung franchise ninyo, matatapos. But let me ask you questions first. Kasi ako talaga mag-object na marenew kayo. Alam mo bakit? Magnanakaw kayo. Estapador. Ginawa ninyo sa amin, marami kami…”
“Kalakas ng loob… mukhang marami kami sila Chiz Escudero, tanggap nang tanggap. Niloko ninyo kami, marami hindi lang ako kaya kayo hindi ko kayo palusutin.”
The President continued to reprimand said network for supposedly favoring Sen. Antonio Trillanes IV‘s political ads over his, which he said was already paid for.
“Alam mo yung ginawa ng mga p*****g i*a kayo, ikaw Gabby. Inuna mo pa yung advertisement ni Trillanes na hindi ikaw. Pinaniraan ako ng mga bata, ay si Duterte killer yan. Sa batas, there was an injunction na hindi pwede yan kasi bawal na gamitin mo ang bata. And yet pumunta talaga kayo, went ahead with the show and made it public.”
Mocha Uson Blog.
Hopeful Senator and former PCOO Asec. Mocha Uson laughed about this in a recent Facebook post.
“Ang saya saya! May karma ang lahat ng bagay.”
Mocha only used to provide sex advice to her followers. She would also have bedroom sessions with her group, the Mocha Girls. During the 2016 Philippine Presidential Elections, Mocha’s blog began to shift its content towards politics.
Her blog opposed much of the Philippines’ leading newsgroups such as ABS-CBN, GMA Network, Philippine Daily Inquirer and Rappler. She collectively called said publications as “Presstitutes,” a word play mashing ‘press’ and ‘prostitute’ together.
Mocha gets TV appearances.
When the President expressed his dismay at media enterprises like ABS-CBN, Mocha was soon hurling insults at the network. On April 2018, Mocha appeared in ABS-CBN’s The Bottomline hosted by Boy Abunda.
It was a mild interview as PRRD had earlier threatened the corporation with non-renewal of its broadcasting license.
Korina Sanchez interviewed Mocha for Rated K. Although Mocha had been a huge critic of Korina’s husband, Mar Roxas, the journalist pointed out that the blogger is actually newsworthy.
Rated K ratings plummets because of Mocha.
Interviewing the most controversial blogger and announcing it on social media may be a wrong move as the episode caused Rated K‘s ratings to plummet. Rated K viewers also expressed their dismay.
“ms korina, lahat ng episode mo sa rated k hindi ko pinalagpas, baka ngayon lang. Walang ka kwenta kwenta. sorry ms korina hindi kami manonood.”
“We watch Rated k all the time but we have to pass this episode”
“Magrate kaya ang episode na eto? Nanunuod ako ng rated k… pero pag siya never mind! Lipat channel na lang”
“You just wasted your show’s precious time Ms Korina”
ABS-CBN’s franchise is up for renewal in March 2020 and its enabling law which is House Bill 4349 is still pending at the House of Representatives. The network has been a constant target of the President ever since.
