ABS-CBN Corp. and GMA Network, Inc. both claimed the lead in nationwide TV ratings in July, citing data from different research firms.
In a statement on Wednesday, the Lopez-led media and entertainment giant said it grabbed a 46% audience share in total day national TV viewership in June, 12 points higher than GMA’s 34%, using Kantar Media data.
ABS-CBN also captured more than half of the total urban and rural Filipino households in the primetime block, which starts at 6 p.m., with an average audience share of 51%, a solid 19-point lead over GMA's 32%.
Meanwhile, nine of the 12 most watched programs in the country in July were produced by ABS-CBN.
Leading the pack is "FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano" with an average national TV rating of 37.3%, followed by "La Luna Sangre" (34.8%), "A Love to Last" and the recently concluded "The Voice Teens" (34.2%), which crowned its first-ever champion last weekend.
At the fourth spot is "Maalaala Mo Kaya" (31.1%) followed by "TV Patrol" (30.8%), "Wansapanataym" (28.3%), "Rated K", "Gandang Gabi Vice", "Ikaw Lang ang Iibigin", "It’s Showtime", "Pusong Ligaw", "The Better Half", "Wildflower" (23.9%), "Ipaglaban Mo!", "Home Sweetie Home" (23.3%), and "Goin' Bulilit" (20.7%).
ABS-CBN's coverage of President Rodrigo Duterte's second State of the Nation Address likewise drew more viewers with a national TV rating of 16.6% against GMA’s 7.8%.
The Kapamilya network won against rival networks in the morning block (6 a.m. to 12 noon) as it gained an average audience share of 40% versus GMA's 31%; in the noontime block (12 noon to 3 p.m.) with 44% versus GMA's 39%; and in the afternoon block (3 p.m. to 6 p.m.) with 43% versus GMA's 38%.
The Kapamilya network also kept its lead in other areas such as Total Luzon as it hit 42% versus GMA's 37%; in Total Visayas with 55% versus GMA's 28%; and in Total Mindanao with 55% versus GMA's 30%.
GMA ruled across all dayparts in the National Urban Television Audience Measurement (NUTAM) for the entire month of July (with July 23 to 31 based on overnight data), with an average total day people audience share of 43.5 percent; leading ABS-CBN’s 37 percent by 6.5 points.
Similarly, in Urban Luzon, which accounts for 77 percent of the total urban TV household population in the country, the Kapuso Network maintained a strong lead from morning to evening block with an average people audience share of 50.3 percent; besting competition by 19.5 points.
Majority of the shows in NUTAM’s list of top-rating programs were from GMA. Likewise, in Urban Luzon, the Kapuso Network bagged the first 20 spots in the list of top programs led by “Pepito Manaloto,” “Magpakailanman,” “Kapuso Mo, Jessica Soho,” “Mulawin vs. Ravena,” “Wowowin,” “Imbestigador,” “Eat Bulaga,” “Sunday Pinasaya,” “Dear Uge,” “24 Oras,” “My Love from the Star,” “I Heart Davao,” “Bubble Gang,” “Saksi,” “Daig Kayo ng Lola Ko,” “Road Trip,” “24 Oras Weekend,” “Haplos,” “Impostora,” “Tadhana,” and “Ika-6 na Utos.”

Further, leading local news channel GMA News TV delivered up-to-the-minute reportage and in-depth analyses from experts on the President’s second SONA via the special coverage SONA ni PDU30 anchored by Jessica Soho and Arnold Clavio.
It posted nationwide people shares of 8.4 percent; winning over TV5’s SONA coverage, which only got 3.9 percent. It also recorded a bigger margin in Urban Luzon with 11 percent people shares as against TV5’s 2.4 percent.
GMA News was also the go-to news source online. GMA News’ Facebook Live reached a total of 2,657,146 video views as of 6:30 p.m. of July 25, while ABS-CBN News only got a total of 1,646,732.
