"Para po sa amin dito sa IBC News and Public Affairs, isang manigo, masagana at mapayapang sa inyong lahat! Sana po ay buo pa rin ang mga kamay pagkatapos ng gabing ito!"
When Maria Diane Ventura’s “Mulat” opens in local cinemas on Nov. 2, moviegoers are in for a treat: Her short-film “The Rapist” will play before the feature film.
Showing two of her movies is a good way to reintroduce the award-winning filmmaker to her audience especially since “Mulat” was a finalist in the 2014 Metro Manila Film Festival New Wave Film Category.
“Mulat” producer Day Herrera Cabuhat said, “Dianne likes to focus on women and I think it’s probably because she is a strong woman herself.”
The film is about a woman was already engaged to her boyfriend when she places everything on hold because of a dream.
“When I first read the script, and she asked me to produce it, I was so excited because it was a different perspective on love. Lahat tayo sanay tayo sa mga love stories, sa mga rom-com. But the approach to the matter of love and the decisions that we make about love are tackled in a different way in this movie,” Cabuhat said.
“Mulat” stars Jake Cuenca, Loren Burgos and Ryan Eigenmann.
At the 2015 International Film Festival Manhattan, Maria Diane Ventura won the Best Director for Global Feature and Jake Cuenca won Best Actor for their work on the film. At the World Cinema Festival in Brazil, “Mulat” was the Best Narrative Feature and Cuenca won another Best Actor award.
