Dental technician found dead in his rented unit
A dental technician who was alleged to be addicted to alcohol was found dead in his rented unit in Sampaloc, Manila on Monday night.
The police identified the fatality as Cristobal Caasi, around 37 to 40 years old, single and resident of La Paz Street, Sampaloc, Manila. He was rushed to Mary Chiles General Hospital but was declared dead on arrival.
Initial investigation showed that Paul Nuñez, coworker of Caasi, saw the lifeless victim inside his bedroom at about 2:30 p.m. on Nov. 12. Nuñez said that after he saw the body, he immediately called help from the victim’s neighbors.
Caasi had previously undergone a treatment wherein his physician instructed him to stop his drinking habit but he ignored the doctor’s advice and continued his alcohol addiction, police said.
Sheryl Capuchino, landlady of the apartment said she saw the victim alive at about 6 a.m. on Monday.
During the cursory examination of the victim’s body, there were no signs of physical injury.
The body was transferred to Arch Angel Funeral Parlor for autopsy and safekeeping.
Further investigation is ongoing to determine whether or not foul play was involved. (Erma Edera)
French couple loses credit cards, gadgets worth P155,000 in hostel room in Manila
A French couple lost their credit card and gadgets worth P155, 000 inside their hostel room in Manila on Sunday.
In a report, Romain Verdier and Mathilde Verraest said they left their laptop, camera, tablet and credit card at room 405, Hola Manila Hostel in Malate so they could travel light to Taal, Batangas.
However, they discovered that their things were already missing when they got back to the hostel in the evening of Nov. 11.
Police are looking into another foreign national, who checked in in the same establishment and occupied a vacant bed in the couple’s room, as person of interest.

Man killed in shootout with cops in Caloocan buy-bust
A man was killed in a shootout with police in Barangay 35, Maypajo, Caloocan City on Monday afternoon.
Police identified the suspect as Ramil del Rosario, 40, jobless, resident of the area.
Elements of the Northern Police District-Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (NDP-CIDG) conducted Oplan Paglalansag Omega, Oplan Salikop and Olea for buy-bust of unlicensed firearm.
During the transaction, the suspect allegedly sensed that he was dealing with policemen so he drew his gun and fired at the operatives.
The poseur buyers then retaliated and shot the suspect on different parts of his body, instantly killing him.
Two of his cohorts, who were reportedly seen sniffing shabu during the transaction, were also arrested.
Police identified them as Katherine Trinidad, 35, resident of the area; and Tracy Tolosa, 21, residing in Pritil, Tondo, Manila.
Recovered from the crime scene and the suspects were seven 9mm fired cartridge cases, a .45 caliber firearm, a 9mm pistol containing a magazine loaded with four 9mm live ammunition, 17 sachets of suspected shabu, and drug paraphernalia.
The pieces of evidence and del Rosario’s body were turned over to the Philippine National Police-Scene of the Crime Operatives for disposition and autopsy examination.
Meanwhile, Trinidad and Tolosa will be charged for violating Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002. (Minka Tiangco)
Man died, his companion in critical condition after two men shot them
A man died while his companion in critical condition after they were attacked at a parking lot of a restaurant in Pasig City on Monday, November 12.
Police identified the slain victim as Re-anne Diamante, while the other one was Reniel Colina. Meantime, the suspects were only identified as Jericho, and Ram.
Investigation showed that around 4:30 a.m., the suspects and victims were all guests at the birthday party of Sarah Morcillos at During’s Restaurant located on Jimenez St. in Barangay Kalawaan, Pasig.
Jericho and Ram reportedly left the party after they got irked when one of the friends of the victims ordered them to get a bucket of ice.
One of the suspects waited at the parking lot with a gun, investigators said.
Jess Aguilar, a parking boy, said he saw one of the suspects pulling out a gun and shot Diamante and Colina multiple times. He said the victims were about to leave when the incident happened,
Jericho and Ram, according to police, then fled aboard a gray Honada Civic.
Concerned citizens rushed the victims to the Rizal Medical Center. But, Diamante was declared dead on arrival.
Dr. Linico Federico Marquez said Colina landed in critical condition due to the several gunshot wounds he sustained. His condition is still being monitored.
