Buhay Carinderia redefined

Buhay Carinderia Redefined kicked off recently at the Rizal Park Hotel (formerly the Army & Navy Club) in Manila. In his speech, Cesar Montano, Chief Operating Officer (COO) of the Tourism Promotions Board, noted with gratitude the efforts of Marylindbert International (led by Linda Legaspi) in launching the advocacy in 2011, where carinderia owners were given a venue that provided them identity, pride and a sense of belonging.

Buhay Carinderia, then known as Carinderia Fiesta, offers a glimpse into Filipino’s culture and customs. It is scheduled to scour the whole country in search for the best of the best in our culinary scene.

Said Montano: “Filipino cuisine reflects Philippine history. Centuries of trading with the Chinese and the colonisation of Spain yielded the introduction of unique ingredients as well as cooking styles that have created rich diversity in food preparation throughout the country.”

The local culinary experts will gather at the Vigan Convention Center from June 28-29 where they will share their talents to everyone and interact with chosen students of the area so they could also pass on their skills and experiences.

“During this two-day exposition to showcase all the surrounding provinces’ culinary gems, we will also be searching for young individuals who will become our Philippine Tourism Millennial ambassadors. They should be able to enlighten everyone with their town’s (or city’s) deep and multi-cultural food history,” Legaspi said.
