Sen. Legarda, NCCA launch 4th season of ‘Dayaw’

The fourth season of “Dayaw,” anchored by Sen. Loren Legarda on ANC, and which premiered on Jan. 4, offers six new episodes that focus on our culture bearers, Filipinos who mastered their craft and devoted their entire lives to keep their traditions alive, serving as “sisidlan” or living vessels that bear the wealth of our tangible and intangible heritage.

Legarda, National Commission for Culture and the Arts’ (NCCA) Dangal ng Haraya Patron of Arts and Culture, hopes to further inspire the Filipino audience to appreciate and love our own culture through this new season of the program.

“As I was going through my spiels for the show, I realized that all of us are also ‘sisidlan.’ We are all vessels of heritage and cultural knowledge if only we appreciate, learn and embrace our culture and make its preservation a part of our legacy to future Filipinos,” said Legarda.

The other episodes explore “Living Treasures,” masters of other indigenous art forms. The last episode for the season is “Rediscovering Traditions,” which will allow viewers to discover a pocket of culture that has survived and thrived amid modern encroachment.

“Dayaw” is a project of Legarda in partnership with the NCCA, the prime government arm dedicated to the promotion of Philippine arts and culture, and all-English cable news channel ANC.

“Dayaw” airs Thursdays at 6 p.m. on ANC.

Impressive

We found the Manila Ocean Park and Pepsi Cola Philippines’ Christmas tree very impressive. Made of recycled bottles, it turned out to be the biggest Christmas tree of its kind last year.

In 2015, an 11 meters tall bottled Christmas tree was built using over 6,500 Mountain Dew neon bottles. Manila Ocean Park’s adorable and talented sea lions, Sandra and Yeni, performed and pulled the switch to the light up the Christmas tree.

In 2016, Manila Ocean Park planned another Christmas tree lighting composed of over 12,000 recycled bottles that made it the tallest Christmas tree for the year 2016.

The bottled Christmas tree may remind us that all is not lost on climate change. We can make a difference.
