The Metro Manila Development Authority has penalized the private contractor of Metro Railway Transit-Line 7 project for blocking two lanes of Commonwealth Avenue when it parked a crane that caused monstrous traffic in the area early this week.
MMDA assistant general manager for planning Jose Arturo Garcia Jr. said a P25,000 fine was slapped against EEI Corp. for obstructing the traffic flow in the area near University of the Philippines-Ayala Land Technohub.
"They parked the crane and occupied two lanes of Commonwealth. The motorists and the commuting public were affected," said Garcia. "There was an agreement that before they make a decision, they will first inform the MMDA. We know that we need a project like this one but the contractor should also know and comply with our guidelines."
The construction of the MRT Line 7 Phase 1 already rendered the closure of two lanes from the center island on both directions of Commonwealth Avenue.
Based on its profile posted at the official website of Private-Public Partnership Center, the project involves the financing, design, construction, operation and maintenance of the 23-km elevated railway line.
