Philippine Pavilion opens to the public

The Philippines is participating for the second time at the Venice Art Biennale.

The country presents a pavilion dubbed The Spectre of Comparison curated by curated by Joselina Cruz and it features important Filipino artists Lani Maestro and Manuel Ocampo.

The 57th International Art Exhibition of La Biennale di Venezia formally opened on May 13.

National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) Chairperson and Pavilion Commissioner, National Artist Virgilio Almario, said the voice of the Filipino is getting louder in Venice not only because of the pavilion at the Arsenale, but also because of the involvement of other Filipino artists including David Medalla, Katherine Nuñez and Issay Rodriguez at the 2017 Biennale Arte’s main exhibit, “Viva Arte Viva” by Christine Macel.

“I thank Senator Loren Legarda for having the grit and passion to make Filipino art known to the world through this massive endeavor,” said Almario. “Likewise, I congratulate my colleagues in the government that have shown the world that collaboration can lead to projects such as this.”

The Philippine participation at the Venice Biennale is a joint project of the NCCA, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA), and the Office of Senator Loren Legarda, with the support of the Department of Tourism (DOT).

Great start

As expected, GMA Network’s local adaptation of the hit Korean series, “My Love From The Star,” made its highly-anticipated landing on primetime last May 29.

The series, headlined by Jennylyn Mercado and newest heartthrob Gil Cuerva, beat its rival program and dominated social media nationwide and worldwide. Based on Nielsen Philippines TAM’s Urban Philippines people data, the pilot episode of “My Love From The Star” registered a rating of 11% (based on overnight ratings) versus its counterpart show which only got 9.4%.

Kapuso viewers also applauded the show’s lead stars for their performance on the show.

On the series, Matteo Domingo’s (Gil) real identity as an alien was already revealed showing how his spaceship crash-landed in the country years ago during the Spanish regime. Steffi Chavez (Jennylyn) is seen as a popular actress who often gets bashed for her careless posts on social media.

“My Love From The Star” airs weeknights after “Mulawin Vs. Ravena” on GMA Telebabad.
