LRT2 stations rehab completed in Sept.

The Light Rail Transit Authority (LRTA) yesterday said the P138-million replacement of the conveyance system at LRT Line 2 will be completed in September this year.
The replacement works for the 32 defective elevators and 13 non-operational escalators have started recently.
This is a component of the ongoing multi-year rehabilitation project of LRTA that will put back in good working condition the equipment and facilities of the LRT 2 system.
Gen. Reynaldo Berroya,  LRTA administrator,  said  dismantling of the defective conveyance system at Recto station --  one of the busiest stations of LRT-2 which serves as the  transfer point to the Doroteo Jose station of LRT-Line 1 --  has started.
LRT-2 has 32 elevators and 58 escalators. However, none of the elevators is operational and only 31 out of the 58 escalators are working. Of the 27  non-operational of escalators, 13 have been included in this project.
Berroya said  fixing the conveyance system at busy stations like Recto, Legarda, Cubao, Katipunan and Santolan is being prioritized as there are more passengers boarding and alighting at the said stations.
“We are hoping to restore the elevators and escalators at Recto and Santolan stations next month. However, timely completion and use of the same will depend on the arrival of the equipment and parts and issuance of permit to operate by the respective local governments,” Berroya said.
With the complete restoration of the conveyance system in September of this year, better accessibility, convenience and safety at stations will be experienced by the riding public particularly by the elderly, persons with disability, pregnant, and women with children.
The project was bid out by the procurement service of the Department of Budget and Management and awarded to the joint venture of  MA-AN Construction Corp. and IFE Elevators.
