He has been acting for years now but it’s the first time Raymond “RS” Francisco has won a best actor trophy, and this is for the indie movie “Bhoy Intsik.” Directed by Joel Lamangan, it was among the five finalists in the 2017 Sinag Maynila Film Festival (a joint venture by Brillante Mendoza and Wilson Tieng).
In his acceptance speech, RS, emotional and overwhelmed, said the award will give him more inspiration to hone his craft as actor. It was something he has always wanted to achieve since his theater acting days. He dedicated the award to Lamangan, the cast and crew of “Bhoy Intsik” and as his tribute to the LGBT community.
RS is known for portraying Song Liling in the musical “M. Butterfly.” He went on to play glamorous gay characters in films such as “Markova: Comfort Gay.” In “Bhoy Intsik,” RS played a different but equally challenging role – as a tough gay and all-around hoodlum.
Also a commercial actor and director, RS is president of Frontrow International. He is one of the executive producers of “Bhoy Intsik,” which also stars Ronwaldo Martin, Jeric Raval, Mon Confiado, Tony Mabesa, Jim Pebanco, Liz Alindogan, Shyr Valdez, Ahwel Paz, and Dennis Coronel.

Pride and ‘Joy’ of Abra
Even before she turned 20, Maria Jocelyn Bernos had already involved herself in the service of her fellow Abreños and Abreñas as president of Abra’s provincial Sanguniang Kabataan federation.
Born to Dominic and Mila Valera, Joy started schooling at the local Holy Spirit Academy of Bangued, then earned a Bachelor of Science degree, major in chemistry at De La Salle University, where she also studied culinary arts. You can, indeed, expect her to whip up either a gourmet or traditional pinakbet and other delicacies in her home.
Joy is the widow of Marc Ysrael Bernos, with whom she has a daughter, Mary Sandrine, and sons Joaquin Enrico and Juan Miguel.
“As governor of Abra, I maintain a virtually 24/7 job but I always spend quality time with my children. Like other young Abreños, they are the future pillars of our community, region and country.”
Under the battle cry “Asenso Abreño,” Joy aims to make Abra competitive by raising the level of what she calls JOY HELPS – Health, Education, Employment, Environment, Livelihood, Projects and Social Sciences. She keeps on the lookout for employment opportunities for her constituents and does her own share in preserving the environment while being engaged in eradicating poverty.
One of her advocacies is the promotion of “Abel Abra,” a woven fabric weave featuring nature and people in such fashionable applications as clothes, table runners, shawls and bags. In fact, Senator Loren Legarda has often been spotted wearing an Abel Abra shawl.
