The Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP) will host the Film Ambassadors Night today at the FDCP Cinematheque Manila Open Grounds along Kalaw St., Manila.
The Film Ambassadors Night recognizes the award-winning filmmakers of 2016 who have continued the proud tradition of Philippine cinema and have brought not only prestige to the country but also raised the level of awareness to the craft and art of filmmaking.
“Our filmmakers are Film Ambassadors duly representing our culture all over the world through the wondrous power of cinema. Each of their contribution only adds to the whole of an already great Filipino heritage that is constantly growing in scale and quality,” Liza Diño, FDCP Chair and CEO, said.
Since assuming the position, Diño has pledged to champion the continued growth of Philippine cinema and has introduced numerous flagship programs to support and empower film education, film appreciation, film criticism, and film literacy.
Recipients of the FDCP Film Ambassador Award are Jun Robles Lana and Paolo Ballesteros for their work in “Die Beautiful;” and Brillante Mendoza, director of “Ma’Rosa,” the Philippines’ entry to the Oscar 2016.
The Film Ambassadors Night was first launched in October 2016 and will be an annual event

Redeeming values
Coney Reyes’s antagonist role as Dr. Margaret Divinagracia on “My Dear Heart” has a twist, a good one.
The actress explained that she only chooses kontrabida characters, who have a “change of heart” in the end.
“I don’t accept a kontrabida role if it has no redeeming value. And for me it has got to be a strong kontrabida for real values to come out. So I’m blessed, I’m honored to be always chosen by ABS-CBN and Dreamscape to appear in their shows.
“I’m also blessed to be working with real brilliant directors who try to bring out the best in me so I also have this conscious effort not to portray the role na kontrabida way the same way I did the last time. I really study the role.”
Already on its second week, “My Dear Heart” is directed by Jerome Pobocan and stars Zanjoe Marudo and Bela Padilla, among others.
