Leon Miguel, adopted son of Manobo Kulamanon Tribe 9 SHARES Share it! By: Crispina Martinez-Belen Published December 30, 2016, 2:46 PM

Indie actor Leon Miguel has always been proud of his “humble” achievements in his acting career ever since his performance in the movie “Graceland,” which was screened at the TriBeCa Film Festival in 2012, got noticed especially by international audiences. He played the main villain in that movie directed by Fil-American filmmaker Ron Morales. Leon did not win any award for that movie but it won the Best Narrative Feature Film at the San Diego Asian Film Festival, and the Audience Choice Award at the Gasparilla Film Festival in Tampa, Florida.
“Graceland” also got the 2014 NCCA Ani ng Dangal award in 2015, but this time for his and Christian Lat’s film “Redlights.” This same film won for Leon his first international Best Actor Award (short film category) at the 2016 International Film Festival Manhattan whose programmer and festival director was Luis Pedro.
Leon is proud of the recognition given him and his films by various international film festivals but he is also very proud of the fact that two years ago, while filming a Cesar Montano starrer in Bukidnon, he won the heart of tribal leaders who “adopted” him.
“I am a proud adopted son of the Manobo Kulamanon Tribe of Sto. Domingo, Bukidnon,” Leon said. “I was adopted by Datu Mabasag (a.k.a. Novo Sabas) who is the principal of the Sulad’s Comprehensive High School for the Lumads, with Datu Malinao (a.k.a. Bobby Enabong, who is the Indigenous People Mandatory Representative (IPMR) of Valencia City.” The adoption ritual was held in 2015 in Sto. Domingo, Bukidnon.
Leon’s latest movie is “EJK” where he plays, again, the main villain. Directed by Roland Sanchez, “EJK” like his previous movies, is slated to be shown in various international film festivals. “I was bad in ‘Graceland,’ but mas masama ako dito. I play an undercover agent who’s also involved in illegal drugs,” Leon related. “EJK” stars Mon Confiado as lead actor, and also features Felix Rocco.
