As the nation honors Filipinos who served and fought for the country on National Heroes Day, Sports+Action (S+A), the country’s number one sports channel, relaunches with the debut of its new station ID (SID) that showcases the Filipino athlete’s journey to greatness through the values of excellence, hardwork, teamwork, resilience, and nationalism.
Witness S+A’s transformation on Monday (August 29), as it communicates ABS-CBN’s commitment to its sports advocacy via the new SID entitled “Sumasaludo sa Pusong Palaban ng Lahing Pilipino.”
Featuring an original song written and performed by rapper Quest, the new SID features a mix of iconic Filipino athletes that ABS-CBN Integrated Sports’ cameras have captured in the past years covering various sporting events such as the UAAP, NCAA, boxing, and mixed martial arts. They include volleyball stars Alyssa Valdez and Grethcel Soltones, basketball hotshots Jeron Teng and Jio Jalalon, MMA fighters Brandon Vera and Chris Hoffman, and champion boxers Donnie “Ahas” Nietes and Nonito “The Filipino Flash” Donaire.
ABS-CBN Integrated Sports head Dino Laurena explained that the new SID sends the strong message that Filipinos, athletes or not, will do everything for their family, and seeing them off in a better way is the driving force behind Filipino athletes to work hard and to persevere while putting flag and honor above all else in competitions.
“In our experience covering the games and interviewing the athletes, and in our interactions with ordinary people, we saw the parallelism in the life of an athlete and the common Pinoy. At the end of the day, what keeps them going and fighting is the drive to better oneself, and more importantly, to make the people they love happy,” he shared.
Laurena added that ABS-CBN Sports will be playing a more active role in the journey of both Filipino athletes and ordinary Filipinos from this point on.
“Apart from our TV programs and coverage of sports events on TV and online, we will also have on-ground projects that will have direct impact on the people. We will be the biggest supporter and cheerleader of the Filipino,” Laurena said.
The ABS-CBN Creative Communication Management Division (CCM), famous for its Summer station IDs and Christmas Station IDs, produced S+A’s new station ID that also features young, senior, and differently-abled athletes in the sports of running, triathlon, rowing, softball, and basketball, who will both touch and amaze viewers with their competitive spirit.
Meanwhile, viewers can expect an action-packed September on S+A with the opening of UAAP Season 79 on September 3, the live coverage of tennis grand slam competition U.S. Open on September 11 and 12, Pinoy Pride 38 on September 25, and the continuation of basketball and volleyball action on NCAA Season 92 and the Shakey’s V-League Collegiate Conference, respectively, among other exciting offerings.
You may also catch some of the action on high-definition on S+A HD on SKYcable. S+A and S+A HD are both under ABS-CBN, the Philippines’ leading media and entertainment company that is in the service of Filipinos worldwide.
Witness the relaunch of S+A this Monday (August 29) on S+A ch. 23 on free TV, channel 2 on ABS-CBN TVplus and S+A HD ch. 166 on SKYcable. For sports updates, logon to sports.abs-cbn.com or follow @ABSCBNSports on Twitter and Facebook.
"Language construction aside, Kevin Trinidad, a graphic designer, visualized the new logo and may perceived it as a romantic channel instead of sports and action. Why? It's because S and A are about to kiss each other."
