Priest and Bishop Registration for WYD is Ongoing

Registration of priests and bishops for WYD is still ongoing. The events of World Youth Day will involve many priests and bishops fulfilling the work of ministry, and not only those from Poland, but from the whole world who will come to Krakow either with groups or themselves. Besides participating in the Eucharist, priests will minister in confessionals, while many bishops will be engaged in leading catecheses for pilgrims.

The organizers are directing invitations to priests to help with priestly ministry – giving out Holy Communion during Mass at Błonia and Campus Misericordiae and ministering communion in the Reconciliation Zone.

“In the Year of Mercy the sacrament of confession bears a special meaning, and so we ask priests to take on ministry in confessionals in the Valley of Mercy in Łagiewniki, in Jordan Park or in St. Mary’s Basilica. We sincerely welcome priests to take on this ministry which Pope Francis asked for, the ministry of reconciling with God, the sacrament of Divine Mercy,” said Fr. Andrzej Wołpiuk, coordinator of the Registration Section of the OC WYD Krakow 2016.

We are expecting that in the events of WYD, around 15 thousand priests will take part. “There were around 14 thousand priests who took part in WYD in Madrid. We are thinking about a similar number at WYD in Krakow,” adds Fr. Wołpiuk.

Registration of priests will last, like in the case of that of pilgrims – until the end of June.

Registration of bishops is taking place through a special registration module. In the first phase there is need to fill out a document on paper – you can download and print it from the registration system (HERE). Bishops from abroad send a filled out document to the Pontifical Council for the Laity, whereas Bishops from Poland send it to the Organizing Committee of WYD. There data entered into the system creates an account, where the bishop or his secretary can finish filling out a registration form.

“It is worth remembering that bishops perform an additional role – in many cases they will be involved in leading catecheses, which will be conducted in around 280 places,” said Fr. Wołpiuk.
