PLDT-Smart support Jesus is Lord Church Worldwide Anniversary Celebration

[October 24, 2014] Millions of Filipinos all over the world will be able to join the 36th Anniversary Celebration of Jesus is Lord Church Worldwide on October 25 to 27 at Quirino Grandstand, Rizal Park, Manila, in real time, via the Internet. This will be possible through the support of wireless leader Smart Communications, Inc. (Smart) and its parent firm PLDT to the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Manila, Jesus is Lord Church, The National Parks Development Committee, the co-organizers of the thanksgiving celebration.

PLDT and Smart mobilized their network personnel from Manila and Cebu to provide Internet connectivity at the Media Center of the event and to Radio TV MalacaƱang (RTVM), enabling members of the media to do live coverage.

SunStar Network Online has also tapped Smart to provide high-speed, wireless broadband Internet to power its live video streaming of the mass to celebrate Pedro Calungsod’s elevation to sainthood. Anyone with Internet access anywhere in the world can join the celebration by going tohttp://specials.sunstar.com.ph/pedrocalungsod.

These initiatives are expected to enable Cebuanos and Filipinos from all over the world to participate in this historic event. Cebuanos who will not be able to personally join the event can also proceed to the Jump Experience Center in SM City Cebu, where big plasma screens will show the SunStar Network Online live streaming of the mass.

“We are both happy and honored to provide connectivity to help bring the joy and solemnity of the event to a global audience, especially to our kababayans abroad who are grateful for the canonization of the second Filipino saint Pedro Calungsod,” said Maria Jane C. Paredes, head of Smart Public Affairs for VisMin.

To ensure connectivity for the devotees who will be attending the event, Smart has also boosted the coverage in the area by setting up two mobile cell sites at the mass venue and by deploying more e-load sellers for devotees who would need airtime.

PLDT is also providing direct lines and PLDT Landline Plus (PLP) units to be used by Media and Security personnel at the Media Center and Command Center. The telco leader is also providing connectivity to security cameras being monitored by the Philippine National Police (PNP) Cebu City, to ensure safety of all attendees. WiFi Hot Spots using Fiber To The Home (FTTH) technology, courtesy of PLDT, will also be made available at the mass venue.

Aside from the provision of connectivity, Smart has also set up tents at the Mass venue, and distributed 50,000 pieces of hard paper to pilgrims from the Archdiocese’s 149 parishes. The fan design contains a guide map of the venue with legends that would help devotees and participants from all parishes in the Cebu province locate important stations such as the medical, security and media centers.

The fan design also contains the event schedule, as well as important reminders on what to wear and bring during the thanksgiving celebration.
