Suspense thriller coming soon in Manila By: Crispina Martinez-Belen

After premiering in the Land Down Under in 2015, Australian action suspense thriller “Lurking Woods” will be shown in Manila on Feb. 8.
Knowing the Filipinos’ penchant for suspense, fantasy and horror thrillers, the producers of the movie, Dato’Rod Manikam and Hafizi Homari, believe they have a good chance here.
“You can sell it anywhere in the world,” said Manikam. “I believe this movie will make lots of money and that’s why I put my money into it.”
Director Rizal Halim considers filmmaking his passion. After being an actor in his country Malaysia and even in Hollywood where he appeared in a Jodie Foster film, he went into directing but did not study to become one.
“Cinema was my teacher, so I watched movies. I attended classes by Hollywood directors and bought books about directing and even editing,” he said.
One of Halim’s films, “Still Life,” was screened in Cannes in 2014. He got an invitation to participate again this year.
“Lurking Woods” is about friends in college, six boys and six girls, who went on a holiday in the woods then got killed there one by one during a game.
“This was a bit difficult for me to do a horror movie in daytime, how to make the people jump in their seats (in broad daylight) as most horror films are shot in the night. So it was a challenge for me. It’s something different,” said Halim.
“Lurking Woods” cast members are Hope Devaney, Daniel Berenger, Troy Coward, Dominique Shenton, Kyle James Sargon, Chloe Brown, and Michael Rainone. The movie is also in English.

PIA at 30

North, south, east, west, central.

From Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao.

It was an event 30 years in the making. For the first time in its history, all staff members of the Philippine Information Agency are under one roof, celebrating a milestone to remember.

On December 8, 2016, more than 500 employees, partners, former staff members, and special guests of the Philippine Information Agency gathered at the University of the Philippines (UP) Bahay ng Alumni to celebrate this landmark event. Represented in the event is the full force of PIA staff members all over its 16 regional offices and 72 provincial information centers.

“We’ve worked hard to make this happen and it’s an honor to be at the helm of this agency at this momentous occasion,” says Director General Harold Clavite who really pushed to made this happen. “It was about time for all of us to come together and not only rekindle the passion we have for our work, but also remember the successes we have accomplished.”

Established via Executive Order 100 that was signed on Christmas Eve 1986 under the Administration of President Corazon Aquino, the Philippine Information Agency was tasked to be, “an agency in government with a means to communicate with the people, and in turn for the people to vigorously express their opinions, views and beliefs to the President; and in the same manner, a need for efficient flow of public information required by the people to assist them in decision making to improve overall quality of life.”

In essence, the agency’s offices all over the Philippines are the on the ground heralds of the National Government, mandated to communicate the Administration’s message to the grassroots. The men and women of PIA are given the challenge to communicate timely, accurate, and relevant information that will improve the quality of life of the Filipino.

Also, through Executive Order 511 that signed by President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, the PIA has also become the advertising and public relation arm of the government, and has been developing full-scale advocacy and awareness campaigns for agencies locally and nationally.

In a symbolic toast led by Director General Clavite and Deputy Director General Angelo Villar, they envisioned a new PIA, was that is in-tune with the times, stronger together, and ready to take on the challenges ahead.

It was a signifcant gesture that not only is the agency celebrating its 30 years of existence, but is also focused on even making greater strides in the next 30.

Aside from the festive gathering enjoyed by the attendees, there was also a time to honor some of the longest-serving members of the PIA staff. Loyalty Awards were given to staff members who has served for at least 10 years.

Ms. Delicia Servande and Mr. Carlos Jackson, both from the Region 8 office of the agency were given accolades for serving the agency for 40 years, counting their loyal service to the predecessor of the PIA.

Awards were also given to staff members who promote the value of conscientious use of office resources and conservation of the environment among PIA employees (The PIA Masinop Award). The Gantimpala Award, for those who have exemplified courtesy, promptness, efficiency, dedication to duty and innovation, were also handed out. A number of PIA Special Recognition Award were bestowed on PIA employees who have shown exemplary achievement and contributed meaningfully to the agency.

A total of 12 employees were given the Meritorious Performance Award, for having attained two consecutive Outstanding Ratings for the year 2015 based on the Agency Performance Management System. Three PIA staff members who are truly worth emulating were honored the Outstanding Performer Award, for ardently achieving the extraordinary accomplishment of two (2) Outstanding Performance Ratings within a calendar year.

Guests from the Presidential Communications Office also graced the event including Assistant Secretary Marie Banaag, Assistant Secretary Bam Garcia, Director Gigi Agtay, and Undersecretary George Apacible.

As one important sign that the PIA is forward-looking and ready to take on more challenges, the attendees were one of the first to see a preview of the Philippine Information Agency’s first television program called LIKE PINAS. The weekly magazine show will give many more reasons why everyone and anyone should love the Philippines and also highlight government programs, services, and policies that are improving the lives of the Filipinos.

Though the night was about PIA’s internal achievements, the agency and it’s whole crew of dedicated information officers, directors, administrators, researchers, technical personnel, and creative staff did not forget the reason for why they’re there.

Because year in and year out, from the very beginning, the country’s chief information arm is about empowering communities and making a positive difference in the lives of the Filipino people.

Vhong Navarro proud of his latest movie By: Crispina Martinez-Belen Published January 10, 2017, 12:05 AM

If Kapamilya comedian-TV host Vhong Navarro is truly proud and happy of his latest movie “Mang Kepweng Returns,” it’s because it competed well with foreign films when it opened last week. Produced by New film outfit CinekoProductions, the movie was written by Volta Delos Santos and directed by GB Sampedro.

Said Vhong: “I’m really happy with the turn out of this project. Imagine, it’s the first time in my entire acting career that my film commercially opened on my birthday (Jan. 4) and it was the first local movie to be shown this 2017. This really means a lot to me. The very encouraging feedbacks and its box-office performance only show that viewers like the movie. I hope it continues to make money in the coming days.”

“Mang Kepweng Returns,” a reboot of a Chiquito classic, is now on its second week.

“I’ve always been a great fan of Papang. During his prime, he breathed life to numerous zany characters that became popular among the moviegoers, among them Mang Kepweng which was the character of four of his box-office hit films shown in 1976, 1977, 1979 and 1981. ‘Mang Kepweng Returns is a dream project for me,” Vhong added.

Also in the cast are Jaclyn Jose, Pen Medina, Sunshine Cruz, James Blanco, Louise delos Reyes, Jackie Rice, Valeen Montenegro, Jhong Hilario, Juancho Triviño, and Kim Domingo. In special roles are Lotlot de Leon, Matet de Leon, Shalala, Ryan Bang, Ahron Villena, Helga Krapf, Odette Khan, and Luz Fernandez.

GMA Network, ABS-CBN claim ratings leadership

The country’s two largest television networks on Friday claimed leadership in the nationwide TV ratings for 2015.

GMA Network, according to Nielsen TV Audience Measurement’s full year 2015 National Urban Television Audience Measurement from December 27 to 31, was ahead of other networks in total day ratings with 35.4 percent, leading ABS-CBN’s 34.9 percent and TV5’s 9.2 percent.

GMA, which airs Channel 7 on free TV, overtook its closest rival in NUTAM in September 2015, and has since sustained nationwide ratings leadership.

ABS-CBN Corp., meanwhile, said it ended 2015 on a high note after the network ruled nationwide ratings from January to December last year (excluding Holy Week) with an average national audience share of 43 percent against GMA’s 36 percent, data from Kantar Media show.

ABS-CBN also kept a stronghold of the primetime block whole year round as it scored an average national audience share of 50 percent compared to rival’s 31 percent.

This means half of the Filipino viewing population in combined urban and rural homes tuned in to the top-caliber programs offered by ABS-CBN on primetime.

Urban Luzon remains a strong area for GMA as it registered 39.7 percent, surpassing ABS-CBN’s 30.6 percent by 9.1 points and TV5’s 8.2 percent by 31.5 points.

GMA also further secured its dominant position in its bailiwick Mega Manila with 41.7 percent, up 14.7 points from ABS-CBN’s 27 percent and up 33.2 points from TV5’s 8.5 percent.

For December 2015, GMA posted a stronger total day lead with 38.9 percent in NUTAM, outscoring ABS-CBN’s 33.6 percent by 5.3 points, and TV5’s 7.8 percent by 31.1 points.

“The Nielsen sample of TV households is robust and representative of the TV viewing audience,” said Nielsen Philippines managing director Stuart Jamieson on the accuracy of its TAM or TV Audience Measurement service.

“Its household panel selection is anchored on an Establishment Survey whose sampling design captures the geographic complexities of the Philippines and ensures fair representation of Mega Manila, cities outside Mega Manila and other provincial areas. Rigid data quality controls put in place further provide assurance of a superior and reliable TV audience measurement service,” he adds.

Nielsen has a nationwide urban sample size of 2,000 homes and 1,200 homes effective this 2016 in Mega Manila.

ABS-CBN claimed it fared better than its competition in other territories such as Balance Luzon (areas in Luzon outside Mega Manila), where it scored a national average audience share of 45 percent against GMA’s 36 percent; 55 percent in Visayas against the rival’s 27 percent; and 54 percent  in Mindanao with against GMA’s 28 percent.

Kantar data also show that 17 programs produced by ABS-CBN made it to this year’s Top 20 most-watched programs.

They are Pilipinas Debate 2016; FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano; The Voice Kids; Pangako Sa ’Yo; Dolce Amore; Till I Met You; Born For You; Meron Akong Kwento Ang Himig ng Buhay Ko concert; Pilipinas Got Talent; Dance Kids; MMK; Wansapanataym; TV Patrol; Pinoy Boyband Superstar; MMK 25th Anniversary; Halalan 2016: Ang Huling Harapan; Home Sweetie Home; Magpahanggang Wakas and Goin’ Bulilit.

Kantar Media uses a nationwide panel size of 2,609 urban and rural homes that represent 100 percent of the total Philippine TV viewing population, while the other ratings data supplier AGB Nielsen reportedly has only 1,980 homes based solely in urban areas that represent only 57 percent of the Philippine TV viewing population.

Strong Q4 solidifies GMA Network’s 2016 ratings lead

GMA Network Inc. solidified its nationwide television (TV) ratings in 2016 amid its strong fourth quarter performance.

Citing data from ratings service provider, Nielsen TV Audience Measurement, GMA said in a statement it registered a total day people audience share of 37.3 percent in NUTAM (National Urban Television Audience Measurement), ahead of rival ABS-CBN Corp.’s 37.1 percent.

GMA said it grabbed the nationwide lead from ABS-CBN based on people shares in September 2016, and it has maintained its leadership by consistently increasing margins.

It said the remarkable performance in the fourth quarter or October to December period also enabled the broadcaster to dominate the ratings game for 2016.

Leading across all day parts, GMA had a 40.3 percent audience share in the fourth quarter, ahead of ABS-CBN’s 35.2 percent.

For the month of December alone, GMA saw its best performance through its 41.7 percent audience share, higher than ABS-CBN’s 33.9 percent.

GMA said it also won in Urban Luzon, which accounts for 77 percent of all viewers in urban TV homes in the country, as it had a 42.6 percent audience share against ABS-CBN’s 31.4 percent.

Nielsen data is gathered through a greater number of sampled homes nationwide in comparison to Kantar Media which provides TV ratings data for ABS-CBN.

In particular, it has approximately 900 more homes surveyed in total urban and rural Philippines compared to Kantar’s 2,610 homes.

With more homes surveyed, GMA said Nielsen data is statistically considered more representative of the total TV population.

Earlier, ABS-CBN said it won the nationwide TV ratings game last year.

Based on Kantar’s data, ABS-CBN said it beat all TV networks in the country through its average audience share of 45 percent across both urban and rural households for the January to December period, compared to GMA’s 34 percent and TV5’s seven percent.

Elvis Presley impersonators continue with fundraisers By: Crispina Martinez-Belen Updated January 6, 2017, 12:18 PM

It’s nice to know that friends who are die-hard Elvis Presley fans (and impersonators) are active with fundraising activities for Elks Club Lodge 762, a US-based fraternal organization whose Philippine chapter supports charitable organizations such as the Philippine Cerebral Palsy, Philippine-American Guardian Association, Circle of Friends, Pangarap Foundation, and the American Association of the Philippines.
The Elks Club raises funds through benefit concerts like the recent “Elvis Night@ the Elks” spearheaded by the Elvis Presley Friendship Club of the Philippines Int’l (EPFCPI) through its founding chairman Chito Bertol.
“Elvis Night” is a quarterly event with the following as performers: Douglas Masuda, past president of Elks Club and known as the Elvis of Japan; Chito, the Original Elvis of the Philippines; Eddie Lombardo, Elvis of Italy and Jun Espinosa, current Elvis of the Philippines.
Last Jan. 2, the EPFCPI with its 400 members celebrated the 82nd birthday of Elvis Presley at Quattro Music Bar. The club is the only Elvis Presley fans club in Asia that has a two-hour Elvis program every Sunday on DZSR 918 hosted by Chito.

Get-together
A few weeks back, close family friends Evie Mosby and Maria Nueno, who were visiting from Arizona and Canada, respectively, invited us to the C Lounge at Conrad Hotel for a meeting that soon turned to a mini-concert of sorts, with their cousin, Mina Andrea, wowing everyone with her singing skills.
Evie and Maria are the daughters of the late TV host-actress-singer-politician Cielito del Mundo who endeared herself to people not only with her showbiz work but also her various public service projects.
Among others, Cielito (who was also known to many as Mahal) was among the original hosts of “Kapwa Ko, Mahal Ko.” She succumbed to stroke and brain tumor on Jan. 9, 2016.
Also in attendance at the get-together were Maritess Guevarra, also a singer, and Donald Martinez. Marlene dela Peña, a famous jazz singer in Japan, was also there as with Arthur Manuntag who came with his wife. Sarah Lim Viray, Megan Herrera and some of Maria’s former classmates completed the cast.

Philippines' 81st province created

MALITA, Davao Occidental -- The country's newest province, Davao Occidental, was officially inaugurated in a ceremony held at the Municipal Hall of this capital town Thursday, June 30.

With the birth of the country's 81st province, Davao Region is now composed of five provinces -- Davao Oriental, Davao del Norte, Davao del Sur, Compostela Valley, and Davao Occidental.

Davao Occidental is formerly Davao del Sur's second congressional district.

Along with the inauguration was the oath taking ceremony of the first elected provincial officials including those from the five municipalities comprising the new province, namely Malita, Sta. Maria, Don Marcelino, Jose Abad Santos and Sarangani.

"Today is part of history. The creation of this province came from the motive to boost economic condition and social progress of its municipalities," Representative Lorna P. Bautista- Bandigan said in her speech adding that her priority programs will be focused on providing quality education and uplifting the lives of the indigenous people (IP), among others.

A total of 51 provincial officials sworn their oath of service yesterday comprised of a representative, Governor, Vice Governor, Board members, Mayors, Vice Mayors and councilors.

First-ever Davao Occidental Governor Claude Bautista, in his inaugural speech emphasized that he will parallel his top priority program to President Rodrigo Duterte, which is to eliminate illegal drugs in the province.

"My first order of the day: all employees of all the municipalities, teachers and police in the province shall undertake drug test, if you won't, well just remember that drugs have no room to my province. I will make sure that for the first 100 days of operation (of his administration) we will clear the province from drugs," he said.

"Now is the time to surrender voluntarily if not I will make sure that you will be sanctioned," Bautista added.

He said his priority programs will be poverty reduction, education, livelihood program and investments.

Proposed programs and projects

Bautista said his list of priority programs include reforestation involving 100,000 hectares (has) within the first three years of his term.

He also said he intends to improve services to education in all the province' barangays especially far-flung areas.

He also promised that in two years’ time, the circumferential road for the municipality of Sarangani and better water services will be provided.

He also revealed that the San Miguel Corp. (SMC) will be pouring some P250 billion of investment in the province to put up an Industrial Complex which is eyed to start construction by the second quarter of 2017.

“This will provide employment to more than 1,000 individuals here,” he said.

“To govern a newly-created province will demand extra effort, this is not an easy task, but if I will do it with my partners (mayors, councilors, etc.) I know it will happen,” he added.

Creation of Davao Occidental

Through the enactment of the Republic Act 10360 on July 23, 2013 the province was created. It was passed by the House of Representatives and Senate on November 28, 2012 and December 5, 2012, respectively and later on inked by the former President Benigno Simeon Aquino III on January 14, 2013.

It was then followed by a plebiscite on October 28, 2013 along with the Barangay elections.

R.A. 10360 was sponsored by former Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos, Jr.

According to the 2015 census of Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA), the population of Davao Occidental reached 316, 342 people. The province has a total of 105 barangays with a total of 158, 519 registered voters as of November 16, 2015 as per Election Registration Board (ERB) hearing.

Intense fight scenes in ‘Extra Service’ 17 SHARES Share it! By: Crispina Martinez-Belen Published January 4, 2017, 12:11 PM

Star Cinema’s first salvo for 2017, “Extra Service,” is not your usual comedy outing. According to director Chris Martinez, it is also quite action-packed.
He said, “Marami talaga silang fight scenes dito, hindi lang kita sa trailer but their fight scenes are very intensive and very demanding.”
Starring Arci Muñoz, Coleen Garcia and Jessy Mendiola as a trio of “mild-mannered massage therapists by day and sexy secret agents by night,” “Extra Service” is described as somewhat similar to “Charlie’s Angels” but with more zing.
Chris lauded his stars for their innate comedic timing.
“Alam ko na kaya nilang mag-comedy, hindi ako takot na hindi sila makaka-deliver,” he remarked. “Kaya nila. They have timing naman na. They also have the personality also so hindi naging mahirap for them.”
“Extra Service” also stars Enzo Pineda, Vin Abrenica and Ejay Falcon.
Slated for showing starting  Jan. 11, the film is collaboration between Star Cinema and Skylight Films.

’80s teen idols reunite on GMA’s ‘Meant To Be’ By: Crispina Martinez-Belen Published January 3, 2017, 12:05 AM

Showbiz idols from the ’80s Manilyn Reynes, Sheryl Cruz, Tina Paner, and Keempee de Leon come together in the forthcoming GMA Network romantic drama “Meant To Be” topbilled by Barbie Forteza, Ivan Dorschner, Addy Raj, Jak Roberto and Ken Chan.
Manilyn, Sheryl, and Tina were bunched back in their teens as The Triplets. Sometime early 2000, they went their separate ways after Sheryl decided to lie low in her showbiz career, going on to live in the US. Tina, on her part, stayed in Spain. Manilyn continued with her showbiz career.
Though they’ve been apart, they are still good friends.
“Hindi pa rin naputol ’yung friendship namin. And your friends will always remain friends lalo na kapag nasa loob ng puso niyo ang bawat isa,” said Sheryl.
The actresses are thankful for the reunion. “I was just hoping and praying na sana one day ’yung Triplets mabuo. Thank you to GMA for this opportunity,” Tina said.
On the series, Manilyn is Amelia, the twin sister of Suzy (Tina). Sheryl plays Beatriz (Ivan’s mom) and Keempee De Leon portrays Wilton, Amelia’s husband.
“Meant To Be” will air soon on GMA Telebabad.

I'm Every Woman

I'm Every Woman

Whatever you want
Whatever you need
Anything you want done, baby,
I do it naturally
'Cause I'm every woman (Every woman)
It's all in me
It's all in me
Yeah

I'm every woman
It's all in me
Anything you want done, baby,
I do it naturally

I'm every woman
It's all in me
I can read your thoughts right now
Every one from A to Z...
Whoa whoa whoa
Whoa (oh) whoa (oh) whoa

I can cast a spell
Secrets you can't tell
Mix a special brew,
Put fire inside of you
Anytime you feel
Danger or fear
Then instantly
I will appear
Yeah oh

I'm every woman
It's all in me
Anything you want done, baby,
I do it naturally
Whoa whoa whoa
Whoa whoa whoa

I can set your needs
Like rain unto the seeds
I can make a rhyme
Of confusion in your mind
And when it comes down to some good old-fashioned love
I got it, I got it, I got it, got it, baby, baby

I'm every woman
It's all in me
Anything you want done, baby,
I do it naturally

I'm every woman
It's all in me
I can read your thoughts right now
Every one from A to Z...
Whoa whoa whoa
Whoa whoa whoa

I ain't braggin'
'Cause I'm the one
Just ask me
Oh, it shall be done
And don't bother
To compare
I've got it

Whoa whoa whoa
Whoa whoa whoa
Whoa whoa whoa
Ah

I'm every woman [4x]

I'm every woman [4x]

I'm every woman (chaka)
I'm every woman (chaka)
I'm every woman (ha, ha, ha)
I'm every woman (my girl)

ABS-CBN thankful for the love & support of Pinoy families

ABS-CBN is grateful for another year spent with Filipino families across the country who continuously tuned in to the Kapamilya network for information and entertainment.

Once again, ABS-CBN has become a part of the Filipino families’ daily viewing habits as it obtained an average audience share of 45 percent in the entire Philippines, based on Kantar Media national TV ratings data covering both urban and rural homes from Jan. 1 to Dec. 15.

Apart from the high audience share and TV ratings, ABS-CBN is thankful for the love that Filipinos have shown as reflected in the numerous awards from different award-giving bodies, the huge turnouts in its events such as FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano Thanksgiving Concert and the ABS-CBN Christmas Special at the Araneta Coliseum, and the increasing patronage of its programs online via iWant TV, TFC.tv and Sky on Demand.

Leading the way among entertainment programs that touched Filipino audiences is primetime favorite FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano, which has an average national TV rating of 40.3 percent. The show has been the most watched program in the country, captivating the Filipino audience by promoting love for family and country, and the values of service, humility, camaraderie, and integrity as demonstrated by the protagonist Cardo, played by Coco Martin, and his family and friends.

Also gaining affinity among viewers with stories that mirror the challenges and values in the lives of Filipinos are shows like Pangako Sa’ Yo, starring Kathryn Bernardo and Daniel Padilla; Dolce Amore of Enrique Gil and Liza Soberano; Magpahanggang Wakas featuring Jericho Rosales and Arci Muñoz; The Story of Us of Kim Chiu and Xian Lim; Elmo Magalona and Janella Salvador’s Born for You; Daniel Matsunaga and Erich Gonzales’ Be My Lady; and Till I Met You with James Reid and Nadine Lustre.

Viewers also followed ABS-CBN’s afternoon series Doble Kara, Tubig at Langis and The Greatest Love that emphasize the value of family, marriage and selfless, unconditional love of a mother as well as Maalaala Mo Kaya that features true-to-life stories of Filipinos that affirm courage, resilience and perseverance in surpassing life challenges.

Children also learned about good values in programs like Super D and Wansapanataym, a top-rater during weekends, while Goin’ Bulilit encouraged them to laugh and have fun. Kids also found a new show where they can learn about the environment, culture, arts and family in the new educational show Oyayi, and found new role models in Awra and Onyok of FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano, as well as in the kids from the new daytime series Langit Lupa.

Through the game, variety and reality shows, Filipinos witnessed as one family the honing of talents and the fulfillment of dreams in programs like It’s Showtime, ASAP, Minute to Win It, The Voice PH, The Voice Kids, Dance Kids, Pilipinas Got Talent, I Love OPM, We Love OPM and Celebrity Playtime.

They also got to enjoy conversations in talk shows like Magandang Buhay, Tonight with Boy Abunda and Gandang Gabi Vice, and laughed in unison while watching Banana Sundae and Home Sweetie Home.

ABS-CBN News has also led in keeping the public informed and enlightened on the most important issues in the country with TV Patrol as the No. 1 newscast in the country, while the Pilipinas Debates 2016 it mounted also turned out to be the highest-rating program in 2016 so far with 40.6 percent last May. Beyond news and information, it also served thousands of Filipinos in events such as DZMM’s Grand Kapamilya event and the ABS-CBN News Christmas Family Fair.

Kantar data also show that 17 programs produced by ABS-CBN made it to this year’s Top 20 most-watched programs. They are Pilipinas Presidential Debate 2016 (40.6 percent); FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano (40.3 percent); The Voice Kids (37.6 percent); Pangako Sa ’Yo (34.3 percent); Dolce Amore (33.8 percent); Meron Akong Kwento Ang Himig ng Buhay Ko concert (32.9 percent); Pilipinas Got Talent (31.9 percent); Dance Kids (31 percent); MMK (30.9 percent); Wansapanataym (30.9 percent); TV Patrol (30.7 percent); Pinoy Boyband Superstar (30 percent); MMK 25th Anniversary (29.9 percent); Halalan 2016: Ang Huling Harapan (25.7 percent); Home Sweetie Home (25.3 percent); Magpahanggang Wakas (24.5 percent); and Goin’ Bulilit (23.4 percent).

Leon Miguel, adopted son of Manobo Kulamanon Tribe 9 SHARES Share it! By: Crispina Martinez-Belen Published December 30, 2016, 2:46 PM

Indie actor Leon Miguel has always been proud of his “humble” achievements in his acting career ever since his performance in the movie “Graceland,” which was screened at the TriBeCa Film Festival in 2012, got noticed especially by international audiences. He played the main villain in that movie directed by Fil-American filmmaker Ron Morales. Leon did not win any award for that movie but it won the Best Narrative Feature Film at the San Diego Asian Film Festival, and the Audience Choice Award at the Gasparilla Film Festival in Tampa, Florida.
“Graceland” also got the 2014 NCCA Ani ng Dangal award in 2015, but this time for his and Christian Lat’s film “Redlights.” This same film won for Leon his first international Best Actor Award (short film category) at the 2016 International Film Festival Manhattan whose programmer and festival director was Luis Pedro.
Leon is proud of the recognition given him and his films by various international film festivals but he is also very proud of the fact that two years ago, while filming a Cesar Montano starrer in Bukidnon, he won the heart of tribal leaders who “adopted” him.
“I am a proud adopted son of the Manobo Kulamanon Tribe of Sto. Domingo, Bukidnon,” Leon said. “I was adopted by Datu Mabasag (a.k.a. Novo Sabas) who is the principal of the Sulad’s Comprehensive High School for the Lumads, with Datu Malinao (a.k.a. Bobby Enabong, who is the Indigenous People Mandatory Representative (IPMR) of Valencia City.” The adoption ritual was held in 2015 in Sto. Domingo, Bukidnon.
Leon’s latest movie is “EJK” where he plays, again, the main villain. Directed by Roland Sanchez, “EJK” like his previous movies, is slated to be shown in various international film festivals. “I was bad in ‘Graceland,’ but mas masama ako dito. I play an undercover agent who’s also involved in illegal drugs,” Leon related. “EJK” stars Mon Confiado as lead actor, and also features Felix Rocco.

Famous Sinulog

From "Philippine Daily Inquirer", March 25, 2012:
"Keren has been in golden celebration mode all year. He gathered up a few Coke Ambassadors and special friends for a Hong Kong cruise onboard SuperStar Pisces of Star Cruises, the third largest cruise line in the world.
For many years now, Keren has invited our family to enjoy Star Cruises to many destinations. Cruise time is always fun time with all our celebrity and media friends, as we experience the wonderful, value-for-money vacation that is a cruise.
On board the Pisces, we headed straight to the top deck for a photo-op with the stunning Hong Kong skyline in the background. To make sure we would not get seasick, we took the Bonamine pills the crew was handing out, and then ate to our hearts’ content and sang ourselves hoarse at the ship’s karaoke bar.
As with all cruise lines, many staff are proudly Pinoy, so we always get extra pampering. We are looking forward to going on more exciting trips with Keren in the future."
"Models, TV personalities and dash of the social set came in full force as Keren Pascual blew out another candle of his exciting life, dahlings."
