#MultiplyComeback: About the website itself

Multiply helps you share information and knowledge with the people in your life (i.e., your social network) easier than ever before. We make it easy to share digital photo albums, journals (also known as "blogs"), events, classified listings and product reviews on your personal home page - all in the name of communicating more often, staying in better touch and learning from people you know, and the people they know.

How it works:

Your Network includes your contacts, their contacts and beyond.

Build your network

After joining (it's free), you are encouraged to invite the people with whom you'd like to share information - and stay in touch - on a regular basis. Your Contacts include everyone who accepts your invitation to join Multiply, and whose invitation you accept. Your Network will include all your contacts, plus your contacts' contacts - people such as your friends' friends, your family members' family members, and so on.

Whenever you invite a new contact, you'll list the type of relationship you have with that person. Choose up to four specific types under the general headings Friend, Family, Co-worker or Business Associate, making it easy to restrict access based on relationship type, when you post information on your Multiply home page.

Share information

Multiply gives you a free personal home page to share information such as digital photos, blogs and classified listings. Your home page is located at http://UserID.multiply.com, where UserID = your Multiply user ID.

Whenever you post new information to your home page, you define who this new information is "for." In other words, who should be notified about your new content and be able to see it? Your choices are:

You decide who can see the content you post.

They'll get a message with a link to what you posted.

Everyone: When you select "everyone," everyone who visits your pages can see your content, including people not registered with Multiply. This is no different than posting your content on a public web site. A message is sent to people in your network letting them know what you've posted.

Your Network: - All of your contacts, all of their contacts, and so on, can see your content and will receive a message letting them know it is on-line.

Limit who can see: - You specify just your contacts, specific groups of contacts or specific individuals. For example, you can add the new photos of your cousin's wedding and let only your family members see them. You can add next week's "happy hour" to your calendar and let only your co-workers see it. Everyone you specify will receive a message letting them know what you've posted.

The message sent when you add new content represents a discussion about the content you're sharing, and alerts recipients whenever additional comments are added. It works very similar to a typical message board discussion.

Click on Messages to see what

Just as every new post to your home page generates a message to the people with whom you're sharing, you are alerted whenever someone shares new information with you. The Messages page shows you not only who sent the message, but also what your relationship is to the sender. So when Bruce - your brother's co-worker - answers your request for advice on vacationing in Italy, you'll know it comes from a trusted source.

... And With Whom They are Sharing It

Before you add comments

As you look through other peoples' photo albums, journals, etc., you'll also see with whom their content has been shared - whether Everyone, the sender's network, specific contacts, etc.. Remember that every time new content is added a new discussion thread is started, so if you want to discuss your friend's blog entry, be sure to know who else is part of the discussion.
