‘Twin old souls’ celebrate milestone
A significant milestone will be celebrated on March 15 at Mowelfund Plaza: it’s the joint belated birthday celebrations of Mowelfund’s “twin old souls” and stalwarts, Chairman Marichu Vera Perez Maceda and President Boots Anson Roa-Rodrigo and PR practitioner and talent manager Keren Pascual.
Making the event different from the usual is it being a fundraising event intended to benefit movie workers.
Manay Ichu, Tita Boots and Tito Keren “were there” when founding chairman, now Manila Mayor Joseph Estrada, established Mowelfund in 1974 to assist the film industry’s marginalized workers through its two-fold mandate of welfare benefits and film education.
Both have since embraced the foundation’s mission with unwavering passion. Some 43 years later, they are still there, daring now to divulge any woman’s best kept secret: her age. Manay Ichu, Tita Boots and Tito Keren proudly announce that they will turn 74, 72 and 56, respectively.
There will be mass at 6 p.m. and fellowship will follow. The birthday girls said it will be an informal but “fun” reunion; a homecoming of old and new friends and benefactors from in and out of the industry.
Mowelfund’s pillar, Mayor Erap, has been invited to stand as the evening’s “ninong.”
Manay and Boots has one ardent request, though: No gifts, please. At their ages, their needs are few (only their “wants” remain plenty). In lieu of gifts, check or cash donations, payable to Mowelfund Inc. will be welcomed to sustain said services.
