President Rodrigo Duterte has signed into law an act creating the lone legislative district of Mandaue City in Cebu, documents released by the Palace showed on Wednesday.
Under the Republic Act No. 11257, which the President signed on April 5, Mandaue City will be separated from the Sixth Legislative District of the Province of Cebu to constitute the Lone Legislative District of the City of Mandaue, which shall commence in the next national and local elections.
The newly-signed legislation said, “the incumbent representative of the sixth legislative district of Cebu will continue to represent the said district until the new representative of the lone district of Mandaue City has been elected and qualified.”
The Commission on Elections shall then issue the necessary rules and regulations to implement the provisions of the said act within 30 days after its effectivity.
