Festival highlights positive attitude

The recently held Tinagba Festival highlighted the IrigueƱos attitude and ability to stay strong and positive in times of calamity and disaster. Iriga City and other parts of Camarines Sur had suffered devastation from natural disasters but they have survived and recovered and so this lent more meaning and significance to this year’s festival. Mayor Madelaine Yorobe Alfelor led the festivities.

The most awaited event coincided with the Feast of Our Lady of Lourdes and the International Day of People with Disability.

The rituals of thanksgiving and offering, the core of the annual Tinagba Festival, were most especially required to be visibly interpreted during the street dancing competition. The dances were a fusion of contemporary jazz and modern dance, folkloric, tribal and neo-ethnic steps and movements.

There were five finalists in the Tinagba Festival Showdown/Exhibition: Rinconada National Technical Vocational School; San Antonio National High School; Iriga North Central School; Sagrada National High School and Zeferino Arroyo High School which also won the Best Costume award.  And the first place winner was Zeferino Arroyo High School. Second place went to San Antonio High School; third placer was Iriga Central School which also also adjudged Best In Moving Choreography.

The festival parade was followed by performances from popular artists, including Wilbert Ross, Isabel Ortega, Heaven Peralejo, Alex Gonzaga and Joseph Marco.

Homegrown talent Brian Gazmen (son of Mayor Alfelor) was also cheered by his kababayans.
