MMFF Execom enjoins public to support the eight official entries 20 SHARES Share it! By: Crispina Martinez-Belen

The Executive Committee of the 2016 Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF), under the leadership of MMDA Chairman Thomas “Tim” Orbos and Atty. Rochelle Ona, is giving full support to this year’s film festival.
At the recent MMFF grand presscon and Christmas party held at the QCX of the Quezon Memorial Circle, it was learned that ever since the announcement of the eight officials entries – “Oro,” “Sunday Beauty Queen,” “Kabisera,” “Saving Sally,” “Seklusyon,” “Babae Sa Septic Tank 2,” “Die Beautiful,” and “Vince  And Kath And James” – the Execom has embarked on various activities and campaigns to promote and market the annual film festival to the highest level, enjoining the public to watch all the film entries.
In the words of Noel Ferrer, MMFF’s press liaison officer, “The key word is ‘omnibus’ – sama-sama, tulong-tulong para maging matagumpay ang Pista ng Pelikulang Pilipino.”
The Film Development Council of the Philippines led by Liza Diño has also been providing unwavering support to MMFF 2016 through mall activities that started at the SM Skydome which continued at SM Sta. Mesa and SM Bicutan.
And in the same spirit of transparency shown when the Selection Committee announced the eight official entries they chose, Ferrer revealed the composition of the grand jury to this year’s MMFF. They are Paolo Bertolin (of the Venice International Film Festival), Philip Cheah (Singapore International Film Festival), former Rep. Johnny Revilla, Ms. Mio Tiongson (Sachii), Director Antoinette Jadaone, Vince Reyes (AdFoundation), Fr. Tito Caluag, and actor John Lloyd Cruz.
MMFF 2016 starts tomorrow, Dec. 25, with the “Gabi Ng Parangal” (awards night) on Dec. 29 at Kia Theater.

Eugene as Eugene in ‘Ang Babae Sa Septic Tank 2’
It’s entertaining, to say the least, about “Ang Babae Sa Septic Tank 2: #ForeverIsNotEnough,” the sequel to the box-office hit “Ang Babae Sa Septic Tank,” which marks the return of Eugene Domingo to the big screen as herself. It’s a film within a film that awed the members of the Selection Committee (this writer included) especially with Uge’s performance and the delivery of her lines.
In the words of Eugene herself, “Everybody in the movie is inspired. Ang ganda! Ang perfect ng timing! Ang perfect ng cast! Perfect ang script (by Chris Martinez). It’s a perfect family movie this Christmas.”
Of course, the other members of the cast are all perfect in their performance – awarded actors Joel Torre and Jericho Rosales, Uge’s leading men; Kean Cipriano as the director; Cai Cortez,  and Khalil Ramos.
Dr. Nicanor Tiongson, chairman of the Selection Committee, said “While this comedy may be seen as a film reflecting on itself, it is nonetheless a film that will appeal as well to all moviegoing Filipinos who will profit from and enjoy seeing through the falsities and frivolities of the mainstream movies they have been watching for decades. With wit that sparkles in carefully crafted dialogue and acting that shines way above the commonplace, this comedy tickles both the mind and the funnybone.”
Directed by Marlon Rivera and produced by Quantum Films, MJM Production, Tuko Film Productions, Inc. and Buchi Boy Entertainment, “Babae Sa Septic Tank 2” was graded A by the Cinema Evaluation Board.
