A dream debut party

Kapuso young star Gabbi Garcia (who plays Alena on “Encantadia”) celebrated her 18th birthday last Dec. 6 via a lavish party at the Marriott Hotel Grand Ballroom of Resorts World Manila.
“It was a dream come true,” Gabbi said. “Nu’ng pinapili nga ako ng mommy ko kung ano gusto ko, debut or travel, I chose the former, kasi ’yung pag-travel I can do it any time. Eh ’yung debut it’s once in a lifetime lang.”
The theme of her party was “minimalist but high fashion.” She had three sets of gown that highlighted her beauty and charm. So, of course, the more that her special friend Ruru Madrid (who plays Ybarro on “Encantadia”) was charmed that night. Ruru got to be part of the 18 Roses. Gabbi’s lolo was her first dance while her dad was the last. Ruru was No. 17.

From action star to health advocate
Derek Dee started out in action films when the genre was still in-demand. And because action films were making money then, he was inspired to become a movie producer.
“But too bad, when I joined the production bandwagon, action films went on the decline, hindi na kumikita sa box-office,” he lamented.
Among others, he produced movies for himself, Ronnie Ricketts and the late Ace Vergel.
He recalled during our recent interview that he even produced movies for Nora Aunor.
“And if I remember right, Nora is still contracted to do a movie for my production. But that was 20 years ago, baka nakalimutan na niya,” Derek said.
Aside from his own production outfit, Derek also appeared in movies produced by Regal Films, Star Cinema and Viva Films. It was during his acting days that Derek became romantically involved with former beauty queen and actress Melanie Marquez with whom he has two daughters, Michelle and Maxene.
Derek and Michelle are now health advocates. He relayed that years ago, he was found positive of Hepatitis C but now “cleared of my ailment.”
