Studio 23 goes off the air; ABS-CBN launches new sports channel

Kuwento ni March Ventoza, head ng Narrowcast group ng ABS-CBN, “Well, we started developing the concept almost a year… it took us almost a year to figure it out really well.

"And then we decided to launch it now… in January. So, our first broadcast will be on Saturday, January 18."

Nakausap ng PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal) si Ventoza sa launching ng bagong shows ng ABS-CBN Sports + Action kahapon, January 16, sa T.G.I. Friday’s, Glorietta 3, Makati.

Paliwanag niya, “Well, Studio 23 is a strong brand that’s associated more with entertainment than with sports.

“In the old programming grid, Studio 23… we only had about… the reverse, e, siguro 30 percent sports lang.

"This time around, we're shifting the other way, and really to put a stamp of our commitment... we're here to put the ABS-CBN name now forward."

FULL-SPORTS CHANNEL.

Saad ni Ventoza, “I think our commitment to sports has always been there, that is very clear.

"We decided on a full sports channel when we figured that there’s a lot more to present to the audience.

“Medyo, sa totoo lang, if you look back siguro… mga eight, ten years, medyo manipis ang offering e.

"True enough, siyempre ang PBA [Philippine Basketball Association], di ba?

"And then we were able to build UAAP [University Athletic Association of the Philippines].

“Now that we’ve been able to prove that and also prove it with the Azkals, we now believe that it is time for us to continue with that development.”

Dagdag pa niya, “To date, I think we can confidently say, we have three success stories.

"The UAAP, which includes basketball, volleyball.

“The Philippine Azkals and the popularity of football, which started with our airing of the World Cup and then with the Azkals.

"And finally, boxing, with the ALA Boxing, developing the grassroots, and then, of course, promoting Nonito Donaire’s fights.”
